The Singularity Will Be Communist

I fully expect the Israeli government to be true to their words.

How many hostages have they already killed with their bombing campaigns who will never be recovered?

It isn't about them keeping their word, its about them setting terms they already know can never be fulfilled.

I kinda want to see a Ukraine / Yemen leader board. Who can sink more ships?

  • Country with $100B/mo in the most high end military equipment Western nations can produce

  • Some smol beans on the Saudi Peninsula going to war with surplus Tiger Electronics

Its pedos all the way down, but this one is Prince William, the guy caught cheating with a woman 2 years her junior Rose Hanley. Not Prince Andrew, the guy who Epstein let sexually assault Virginia Giuffre

When my dog snores its all "Oh look how adorable I love you!"

But when I snore its all "Put on your CPAP before you go to bed, I can't sleep with that racket!!!"

Total double standard.

Doing the right-wing "Aktuly I identify as an attack helicopter" bit but I'm identifying as an SUV-merican and its racist not to build six extra lanes of traffic and 5000 new oversized parking spaces in downtown.

Compared to DeSantis, Christie, and Haley? I'd say he has substantively more polish. And his filter is better tuned to the ears of the at-large public.

I'm reminded of Haley's "I can't remember what the Civil War was about" comment, which is a naked dog whistle for the Phyllis Schlafly "Daughters of the Confederacy" types who bankroll a normal campaign, but just comes across as empty-headed to everyone else.

heartbreaking

Although, the very term "third world country" has been so heavily dated. Both in the sense that it describes a Cold War Era that no longer exists and it denigrates a host of countries that have seen enormous economic improvement over the last thirty years. To describe a nation like South Africa or Brazil or India as "third world", you really need to ignore the dramatic scale of industrial growth that's taken place.

It has become notable in so far as African and Latin American professional migrant to the US often live orders of magnitude better than their American peers, simply because they received the benefit of "third world" social services such as health care and education. But then a generation later, their children and grandchildren have sunk back into the poverty that is the norm of Americans of the lower ethnic classes.

The "demise" Trump is describing is the consequence of the balkinization and neoliberal dissolution of these historically bedrock public amenities that once Made America Great. And I don't even think Trump's blind to that. I just think he's sold on the Ultra-Nationalist social theory that says you can only have subways and universities and city hospitals and fire departments if they've got big "Whites Only" signs hanging from the front of them.

The Democrats are doing 1800s style Cooping in order to defeat Republicans who just invested $50M in The Machine That Draws Perfectly Safe Republican Majority Districts.

I think there's probably a very good story in it

Like, its fine. The big distinction between this season and prior seasons

spoilerdoes feel like they needed to give it a happy-ish ending. Rather than our gumshoes coming upon a dread behemoth of human horror operating at the edge of our perception, we've got a conspiracy of the underclass revolting against elites. Which is... fine on its face. But it seems to cut across the actual events of the show, in which supporting caste are actively in conflict with the organizations that were presumably already defeated by the conspiracy's acts.

There's also this pseudo-scientific "we cracked the secret of life! we just had to destroy the local ecology to do it!" bit at the end, that never really has a coherent consequence. Its a motive for what was going on, but it stumbles out as a definitive in a show that works best when it keeps the really weird shit on the edge.

I was hoping for a bit of Reanimator by the final episode, but all I really got was The Proletariat as the guy under the mask at the end of an episode of Scooby Do.

One of the more recent TrueAnon Epsidoes breaks it down better than I could. But Season 4 feels more like a True Detective themed show than a proper season.
