However, US ports can't handle the largest Chinese cargo ships.

TIL. I would never have suspected.

The most vulnerable ships to attack are ones shipping the natural gas Europe's economy needs from the American refineries

Okay, but surely they're not passing through the Suez.

They have the narrow focus of reclaiming control of the shipping route in the same way that Ukraine had a strategic focus on controlling Avdiivka. The bigger picture makes that look like a psychotic devotion to dying on hamburger hill.

The ideology of the American Empire isn't all that far off from the Israel state. Its the American version of the Dahiya doctrine. We have to crush the Houthis because they dared to strike at us. Just like we had to crush the Taliban and Saddam and Al-Assad and Qaddafi. Presumably, we're going to try and wreck the shit out of Iran before too long, but only if we can decouple ourselves from all the other wars long enough to get around to it.

A guy came to my front door and said "I have the paper that says I own this house! Give me money!"

And I said, "Are you the government?"

And he said, "No."

So I said, "That's fine, here is the money."

But then another guy came by and said the same thing, and I was, like "Where does the paper that says you own the thing even come from?"

And, ladies and gentlemen, you are not even going to believe the answer.

If you have a piece of paper with a dead President on it, people will just bring you stuff.

This is why capitalism is good.

But also, look out for inflation! That's a bad thing that happens when too much money exists!

They are celebrating their last coup attempt

The temper tantrum on Jan 6th was barely a coup attempt. There was no leadership, no real plan of action, and no point to simply squatting in the capital while representatives - scared out of their minds at the mob - rushed Biden's certification through that much faster.

The fact that they are comfortable, detached and stupid

They're not the ones who are getting picked up and slapped with criminal charges by the DC Area DA's office. These were the clowns calling the Jan 6thers "Antifa" in the first hours of the riot and then quickly disassociating from them because of the embarrassment. They're only cheering it on now, long after the dust settles, because its an easy grift and a fun little fantasy.

Why would China's shipping suffer when most of their traffic is in and around the South Pacific?

Like, there's a reason Israel exists, and its to guard-dog the Suez for the benefit of oligarchs in and around the Mediterranean. But China is far more invested in the Straight of Taiwan than the Red Sea, as they've got very little in the way of proxies and economic investment on that side of the planet.

But what's really funny is that in Republicans' rush to villainize China, they've missed a much more obvious and presumably even easier target to screech about - South Africa! You know, the country around which all that Suez traffic now has to circle on its way to Europe. Guess who is absolutely cleaning up right now, thanks to the enormous increase in business traffic? Guess who is heavily invested in Palestinian Rights at the ICJ, atm? Guess who is a BRICS member most well-positioned to benefit from Russian mercenaries driving the last vestiges of Western colonialists out of the Sub-Sahara?

But because NRO only knows how to play one note, they've completely missed a ripe opportunity to be super racist under cover of neoliberal internationalist dogma.

It makes the comfort bombing campaign so much more pathetic when it undermines all of the west's strategic goals.

The goal is to reclaim the Gulf of Adan, reopen traffic through the Suez, and reestablish trade flow to allies in Western Europe. I would not say it undermines the goal, only that the goal is moving farther and farther away from reach as Israel's slaughter in Gaza continues. We're shoving more and more fingers into the dam as the Israelis and Turks and Saudis steal stones out of the foundation.

They're sitting around a Jan 6th pinball table and listening to Liz Truss whine about her abbreviated tenure while the work of fascism is done by others for their amusement.

This is, at best, the Netflix of Fascism.

These people are such buffoons. They aren't even fascists. Just cosplayers pretending they picked the winning side, while enshittification eats their lunch along with everyone else's.

The manipulation was stopping the GameStop short squeeze, not causing it.

There was manipulation on both ends. But the initial squeeze was a very deliberately orchestrated attempt by a few major holding firms - Fidelity, Blackrock, and Vanguard most notably - to inflate a bubble and organize a graceful exit from their long GME position.

Robin Hood turned off the ability for users to buy the stock

Because their parent company, Citadel, realized these other firms were fucking them with their own app.

But by then most of the damage had been done and the major stock holders had re-positioned themselves. A bunch of retail investors got caught with some of the bag, but they were incidental in the clash of industry titans.

The squeeze was organic

Anyone who points to a shift on the order of several hundred million dollars in a matter of days and says "Organic" is a sucker.

That would require some kind of machine capable of learning, a model of language so incredibly large that it can comprehend these linguistic nuances, or an intelligent form of artificial device.

Wonder if we'll ever have something like that in the future.

mostly was thinking about when they skewered Gary Johnson about drivers licenses.

Johnson's big sin within the Libertarian Party was being too fucking sensible. He'd say things that people broadly agreed with and get hammered because he failed to couch it in some sovereign citizen bullshit his base would approve of.

he basically reinvented the govt but it was 10 businesses wearing a trench coat lol

The real critical contradiction in Libertarianism is that these people are - despite their most fervent objections - quite happy with their lives. What drives them insane is the mass media, constantly telling them about this or that outrage they're supposed to be deeply invested in.

Most propagandized people on Earth. They're born on second, but convinced the refs robbed them of a HR.
