This has the same energy as The Battle of Bull Run, which the Union did win in the end. The premise is that you've got a reporter rushing to the scene of a climactic final fight, not that the war is about to be over.

the war starting because civility broke down too much and americans started not seeing each other as one people

Broadly speaking, that's how every war starts. But I think this is far more fixated on "Imperialism returning to the core as fascism", with conversations about airstrikes on US cities and journalists getting gunned down as folks in between just kinda refuse to accept its happening.

You can definitely have a conversation about economics, but at some level the gears of war turn themselves.

Salary negotiations, typically.

According to Morin, Western countries are set to launch their fourth-generation nuclear reactors only in the early 2030s.

I remember back in the late '00s when I was told HSR would be here in the '20s. This shit is never going to happen. We're simply going to outsource everything to China and let them take care of it, while periodically waging our fists and insisting we'll start a war with them if they don't get in line.

One of the things you learn as you get older is that looking for a job is a lot like looking for a date. Apps are good for a fling, but you really need a referral before you're going to get into a long-term relationship.

This, but unironically. My current company lined up three different candidates for a job I needed them to fill, fully knowing that the guy I advised they hire was the only remotely competent pick. They just had to do a show of sizing up other contenders so they could report to their higher ups that "We looked at three people and this one was the best".

That's only true to an extent, as I see this shit most commonly in smaller businesses and the biggest factor tends to be the lack of professionalized HR.

At some point, you need trained professionals who can do actual work. It can't just be nepos all the way down. But if the HR person still thinks everyone gets their jobs on Monster.com then... shrug Yeah, you're going to get a bunch of backwards, ill-managed, shitty For-Hire online posts. More often than not, people just have no idea how to interface with the modern suite of HR systems.

Fighter: Barbarian's fratbro drinking buddy

Wizard: Fighter's emotionally distant and verbally abusive father-figure

Monk: Wizard's even more emotionally distant and verbally abusive father-figure

Sorcerer: Monk's third ex-spouse, mostly along to look after the Fighter because he's like a little brother to her

Ranger: Sorcerer's daughter by a second marriage and also the Druid's husband (which has led to some confusing moments with the cleric)

Bard: Rogue's legal defense counsel

It is always worth remembering that the difference between a guy making $60k and a guy making $600k is about $540k.

Sure. But that's one point of failure relative to the N points tied to each major update to a "supported" platform.

xi-lib-tears China plans to build a giant chip factory driven by particle accelerator

While there are many researchers chasing the technology, the Chinese scientists have been exploring a different path. It is a project that has been running since 2017, but due to Huawei’s breakthroughs in chip manufacturing, it was recently catapulted into public view.

“One of the potential applications of our research is as a light source for future EUV lithography machines. I think this is why the international community is paying close attention,” said project leader Professor Tang Chuanxiang from Tsinghua University in a report on the university’s website.

...

Before reaching the chip, the EUV beam undergoes reflection from 11 mirrors, each causing about a 30 per cent energy loss. As a result, the power of the beam is less than 5W when reaching the wafer. This can become an issue when manufacturing turns to 3nm or 2nm.

SSMB technology avoids such concerns. SSMB beams achieve a higher output power of 1000W, and due to its narrow bandwidth, fewer reflecting mirrors are needed, which naturally generates higher terminal power.

Zhao proposed this theory in 2010. Later, in 2017, Tang formed a dedicated team at Tsinghua.

The team conducted the first verification phase at Metrological Light Source (MLS) in Berlin, Germany. In 2019, the experiment was successful and they published a paper to illustrate the phenomenon in peer-reviewed journal Nature in 2021.
