We've got AI influencers to pair up with all those bot accounts inflating activity on the platforms. Then we've got marketing departments dedicated to following the trends created by AI influencers interacting with bot accounts, but we're replacing those teams with LLMs. So, eventually, it'll just be a black hole of spending, where we pay people to operate a big machine labeled "AI" that simulates popular culture.

The real danger of this fishbowl of mass media is that people fixate on it and lose sight of their own material conditions. But as more and more resources go into maintaining the fishbowl, everyone else's lives fall farther and farther away from the surreal glamour of the online phantasms. Because its all artificial, it isn't even clear how many people are engaging with these things. Just illusion stacked on illusion, until a big enough reality comes smashing through.

Doing Shock Doctrine, but you're mostly just waving your dick around and getting increasingly hysterical as people try to kick you in the balls.

You simply do not understand the powerful dialectic that is "Okay, so are you on Team Good Guy or Team Bad Guy? Just sort that out and everything else is easy. Good guys always win, etc."

Maybe if you could catch salt with the meat.

Wouldn't be the first time SquareEnix pissed away years of development time refusing to admit they made a mistake.

Sexual Orientation - you are refused entry to a gay bar because you walked in holding hands with your heterosexual partner who still hasn't paid their bar tab.

I'm reminded of the struggle session from a few months back, when "North Korea is arming Hamas!" was trending and I expressed doubt because... how?

The response was simply "you can get to Gaza from North Korea by land". And... jesse-wtf

  • Food that will spoil in the sun within hours

  • Food you can used to grow more food by recycling the seeds and stems

Hmmm...

Its an ill-conceived and poorly implemented technology, so of course The Economist writes are spinning up fan fictions about fancy graph algorithms as complex civilizations.

I am absolutely looking forward to flag football in the Olympics

Genuinely would like to see this,. Although with as many players moving as quickly as they are, I suspect we're still going to see a lot of injuries. Hopefully far fewer TBIs, though.

"Computer Says No" as an excuse to deny people social services on an ostensibly meritocratic basis is a real problem, but it is one that already exists.

And while statistical bias is easy to echo with AI, its black box nature is traitorous. For instance, the UK home office inadvertently began flagging passports from Albania, Greece, Romania and Bulgaria as participants in "sham marriages". This created enormous volumes of extra paperwork for no discernible benefit.

Rather than being racist, you mostly just establish yourself as unreliable.
