Thanks for the feedback! I'll see about writing something up.

Those Kotobukiya kits can get pretty expensive, not that Bandai kits are all a super value. While I certainly have shelled out on kits $150+, most High Grade (smaller and simpler) kits are around $20-25, and Master Grade (larger and more intricate) kits are around $50-80. That's not even getting into things like tools and paint, like you mentioned. Gaming used to be my main hobby before I got into Gunpla, and that's cheap by comparison, even when taking a fancy gaming rig into account. Like any other hobby, though, you can do it on the cheap (simpler kits and basic tools) or dive into the deep end.

I know you said this isn't your hobby, but Bandai makes Entry Grade kits that are pretty inexpensive and simple to put together, no tools required even.

I loved that build except for the color-correcting stickers. I'm of the mind that a high-end kit like a ver.ka should be designed in a way that doesn't require them. I ended up not using them and the model still looks great.

Yeah, I put CA glue ahead of epoxy since it's easier to work with. You can also get instant set spray to have CA glue cure in seconds.

Yes, I've used it as a gap and dip filler. Sand it down once it's set. It will gum up your sandpaper pretty quickly, though.

My dog is missing an ear, so that would make her stand out pretty easily. If the rest of the dogs were also missing an ear, I'd look for the one that was trying to play with the rest of them. Calling her name wouldn't do any good anyways, since she would be way too distracted by the 99 other dogs.

Your best bet would be CA glue. Second would be 2-part epoxy. Plastic cement/sprue goo works best with polystyrene.

From a usability standpoint, Lemmy just works better, for me at least. I used old reddit with RES and Firefox, but ran into random issues stemming from one of the two.

You don't have to do anything to a kit in order to enter, as long as it's within regulation. The main thing is you must use official Bandai Gunpla or Gundam-themed kits, including decals. Things like putty, pla plate, LEDs, and other "general modeling materials" are also permitted. Official regulations here: https://gbwc.bandai-hobby.net/en/regulation/

Here's the finalists from last year's tournament: https://gbwc.bandai-hobby.net/worldfinalist/result.php

I'm doing 3 HG kits, GN Archer, Arios, and Harute, on a display. I don't have experience creating dioramas, so the display will just be some foam board and paint. In retrospect, choosing these 3 kits may not have been the best idea due to the amount of extra work I've had to do to make them look decent, lots of sanding and putty needed, but oh well. WIP after the snap build and majority of the putty and sanding was done:

I'm working on my GBWC (official contest) entry currently. Hopefully, I'll wrap up the painting portion in the next couple days, then it will be on to panel lining.

This was a quick and fun little build, as well as my first entry grade. The only thing I don't like is the beam rifle, which should've been black IMO.

This is a kitbash between HG Asmoday and a 30MS option set. I was doing Gunpla/30MS kitbashes for a while, and plan to do more, but time and all that.

Made with 30MM Provedel and Acerby as the base, with parts from many other kits also used.

She wishes a spacian would try something.

This kit made me swear off special coating kits. The white armor parts have a shiny coating with a metallic base layer that shows through on the corners. It's a pretty nice effect, but you are unable to clean up the nubs without damaging the finish, and the pieces aren't undergated. On top of that, it's Gramps 3.0, which isn't the best version (I hear it's either 2.0 or GTO for MG). All that for $100 price tag. I can't say I'd recommend this kit unless you really like Gramps and aren't a painter.

A discussion in the weekly discussion thread prompted me to post this one today. I panel lined, used the included sticker decals (eww), and sprayed a matte topcoat.

This one is just a straight build, nothing extra done to it. It was pricy for a MG and a Gundam Base exclusive, but I love the Freedom, so I had to get it.

I learned quite a bit after painting my first project, and this one ended up turning out much better. The main lessons were to paint in layers and the masking tape from Hobby Lobby sucks. I painted everything but the white armor.

I've been saving most of my box tops since shortly after starting this hobby. The artwork on them is nice and I figured I could do something with them sooner or later. Someone on reddit posted something similar a while back and gave me this idea. I didn't feel like working on my current project last night, so I made this instead.

This is the SD 00 Gundam solid clear version, and my first attempt at painting. It looks like ass, but I keep it on the top shelf of my main display case to remind myself of where I started. I learned a lot of lessons from this project, like SD kits don't make good painting candidates unless you want to do a lot of masking, and the masking tape from Hobby Lobby sucks. I used spray cans and a green metallic paint marker.

I have finished painting all the parts, and have begun panel lining. I decided to assemble the beam rifle temporarily to see how it looked painted up.

The stand is also completed. I treated the stand as its own side project that I was working on alongside the Gundam from time to time. I painted it mostly with spray cans, since the pieces are larger. My black spray can ran out halfway through, so I had to finish up with the airbrush.
