On a quick work trip, so a cartridge it is. Great, easy lather.

That works, too, but I'm more jesting about shaving and being smooth... like a swimmer.

Thank you. Mountain Laurel might be my next tub kill. Great scent and even better soap base.

Gotta stay aero for the bike ride.

Ah, right under my nose. Thanks! This inspires me to take another look when I have some time.

July 23rd, 2025: Shave

  • Brush: Wolf Whiskers - "Gianmaria" w/Maggard 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Gillette Super Adjustable
  • Blade: Bolzano Superinox (German) (1)
  • Lather: London Razors, Summer Break Soaps - Mountain Laurel - Soap
  • Post Shave: London Razors - Mountain Laurel - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Dove - Men+Care Ultra-Hydra - Cream
  • Fragrance: G. Bellini - Homme

Today is my birthday, so I used my birth-quarter razor. It's not my favorite razor, but it'll do. Setting #3 works well for me, but since I use it so infrequently I figured I'd try setting 9 on the last pass. I don't think it adds any efficiency, but I did get a couple of very minor weepers, so it adds to blade feel. I already knew, but aggressive razors are not for me (straight razors seem to be an exception to this rule).

We'll fly standby so it somewhat depends which flight has seats. I'm partial to Belgium, but I'll have to take a look and see where we operate to these days. I've always wanted to go to Switzerland, but last we looked (a long time ago) it was a pricey place to visit.

I may do that after giving it another couple of shaves...

I agree to an extent, but names are hard. I was able to sort of guess what fwupd does without having to read more into it. If it was named "Firmware Updater" I would immediately start asking questions. "Which company made this to update their firmware? Is it safe? Is it a virus?". The name "fwupd" indicates to me that it's more of a universal tool (I could be wrong, as I haven't looked into it) made by the open source community.

I think a solid solution would be for mainstream distrobutions (Linux Mint, Ubuntu, etc.) to maybe have a default wrapper for stuff like this. They could call it whatever they like ("Hardware Updater" or whatever), but it'll use fwupd for the heavy lifting. Win win.

July 22nd, 2025: Moarteen

  • Brush: Ever-Ready - 400 w/Motherload 30mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Koraat 15/16 Full Hollow - Sub Exclusive 'Moarteen' (16)
  • Lather: Fanzine Saponifications - Test… Test… 123 - Soap
  • Post Shave: Pinaud - Clubman Special Reserve - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Dove - Men+Care Ultra-Hydra - Cream
  • Fragrance: Cross/Cut - Warm Woods - EdC

The razor felt tuggy for the first time that I remember. By the 3rd pass, though, things felt great. It's possible that my lather wasn't hydrating the whiskers properly. This is the first batch of Fanzine test soap, and I adore it, but it has a wide range of water options. By the 3rd pass I think I had it dialed in a bit better for this type of shaving.

The results are excellent. Very close, and despite the tugging I didn't get any irritation.

Sounds like a really interesting trip. I'm hoping to drag the family to Europe in October. We haven't been since before the pandemic.

I still get updates for things I have installed, but I haven't seen any new integrations or themes added in some time.

After wanting a modern mountain bike for the past 5 years, I finally went and got one. It's a lot of fun.

This is replacing a ~2006 Schwinn Mesa that I never ride anymore, because the trails are too rough for it where I live.

The dropper post is compressed if you're wondering why it looks like the seat is too low 😊

ChangelogBefore an upgrade:

  1. Remember to make backup/export files before an upgrade and save them on another storage device;
  2. Make sure the device will not lose power during upgrade process;
  3. Device has enough free storage space for all RouterOS packages to be downloaded.

I don't really know what to look for in the logs, but with some guidance maybe we can figure this out. Here's how it typically goes:

Set up daily recurring auto-post at sub.wetshaving.social. It works for about 1-2 weeks, then stops.

I set the entire server to restart every 3 or 4 days, which makes Lemmy Schedule stable for longer, but still every week or two it will stop working.

The solution is some sort of combination of restarting the Docker stack (Lemmy Schedule and Redis) and/or opening the Lemmy Schedule web interface and logging in, logging out, refreshing, logging back in, whatever it takes. The need to load the web page is odd, like it reminds Lemmy Schedule somehow that "oh yeah, there are posts to post".

A lot of times when I log in to fix it, the scheduled post does not appear in the to-do list. We have a weekly post that stays in the to-do list, but not until I reload, log out, etc. will the daily post eventually find itself and reappear in the list.

When it starts working again, it typically spits out the posts that it missed, sometimes in duplicate.

Any ideas?

Spearhead Shaving Company is holding a raffle in support of music education in their community. The prize is a Roman Spice soap, aftershave, and EdT.

I'm not affiliated with Spearhead, and if you buy any entries you decrease my chances of winning. That alone should make you want to buy some.

I've seen them called "Stop Lines", "Balk Line", etc. The thick line painted on the road at a Stop Sign.

You're supposed to stop before the line, but a lot of the time there's a bush or other obstruction so you can't see any crossing traffic. You have to creep forward until you can see anything.

Is there a reason for this? Is it done on purpose? It makes sense if there's a crosswalk or something, but I see it a lot where there shouldn't be any pedestrian activity.

I recently came into possession of an Ever-Ready Jewel "Streamline". Streamline has become the vernacular in referencing various razors that are all, admittedly, exactly the same.

The only difference you'll find is between Gen 1 and Gen 2.

Thanks to Cbubs (the man behind Catie's Bubbles), I was made aware of an old reddit post by the late 120inna55. I decided his post was worthy of being preserved on another platform, and our wiki fit the bill.

I made some formatting changes and made the pictures appear in line so you don't have to click over to imgur.com. Cool!

I hope you enjoy! If you have any other ideas for the wiki, please let me know -- or make your own account and get to work!

https://wiki.wetshaving.social/Curated_Articles/Streamline

A couple of months ago, @EldrormR@sub.wetshaving.social loaned me some GEM razors including a beautiful Ever-Ready Streamline. His was in a plastic (or maybe bakelite?) case. "Streamline" has become the vernacular for referencing any of the various razors that look like a "Streamline". They come in various packaging, which differentiates them for collectors.

Anyway, I fell in love and started to casually keep an eye out for one. They are notoriously hard to come by, especially in the USA. Nevertheless, one fell in my lap! A nice one, too!

Specifically, the one I got is called an Ever-Ready Jewel because it comes in a metal case, and although mine doesn't have the "paperwork", these metal cases came with an insert that called it "Jewel".

Most of these have purple felt inside the case. The one I got has red felt.

Notice - Starting from RouterOS version 7.13, significant changes have been made to the RouterOS wireless packages. This is done due to a new product development which will require more disk space for hardware drivers so we had to split it in order to maintain old products alongside the new ones. More wireless packages are yet to come.

  1. When upgrading by using "check-for-updates", all versions earlier than 7.12 will display 7.12 as the latest available version. Upgrade from v7.12 to v7.13 or later versions must be done through 7.12 in order to convert wireless packages automatically. Fresh installation with Netinstall or manual package installation works in the same manner as always.

  2. Drivers for older wireless and 60GHz interfaces, as well as the wireless management system CAPsMAN, are now part of a separate "wireless" package instead of being a part of the bundle package. This package can be uninstalled if not needed.

  3. The existing "wifiwave2" package has been divided into distinct packages: "wifi-qcom" and "wifi-qcom-ac", and the necessary utilities for WiFi management are now included in the RouterOS bundle. RouterOS and "wifi-qcom-ac" packages alongside each other now fit into 16MB flash memory.

What's new in 7.13.5 (2024-Feb-16 19:35):

*) bridge - fixed MLAG connection after peer-link flap (introduced in v7.13);
*) bridge - fixed packet forwarding after changing HW offloaded bridge interface settings in certain cases (introduced in v7.13);
*) dns - do not close connection with DoH server after query execution (introduced in v7.13.3);
*) leds - fixed modem signal strength for RBSXTR&R11e-LTE (introduced in v7.13);
*) sms - increased SMS read timeout;
*) wifi-qcom - improved memory allocating process;
*) wifi-qcom - improved regulatory compliance for L11, L22 devices;
*) wifi-qcom - improved system stability for L11, L22 devices;
