Ukraine's war effort looks fucked to the point of collapse. Avdiivka might turn into a shut cauldron any day now. Russia looks like it could break through at various points along the front. Ukraine has very serious personell problems, leadership problems and ammo shortages.

Maybe Russia will run out of steam at some point, but right now the Ukrainian collapse is accelerating.

I mean look at this (WP, archive):

Oleksandr, a battalion commander, said the companies in his unit on average are staffed at about 35 percent of what they should be. A second battalion commander from an assault brigade said that is typical for units that carry out combat tasks.

Asked how many new soldiers he has received — not including those who have returned after injuries — Oleksandr said his battalion was sent five people over the past five months. He and other commanders said the new recruits tend to be poorly trained, creating a dilemma about whether to send someone immediately onto the battlefield because reinforcements are needed so badly, even though they are likely to get injured or killed because they lack the know-how.

“The basis of everything is the lack of people,” Oleksandr said.

“Where are we going? I don’t know,” he added. “There’s no positive outlook. Absolutely none. It’s going to end in a lot of death, a global failure. And most likely, I think, the front will collapse somewhere like it did for the enemy in 2022, in the Kharkiv region.”

The only thing they said is that, under some rule, the court does not have to go along with South Africa's demands, but rather can impose their own measures. Pretty sure that was all, but maybe I overlooked something.

There was no order about Hamas.

Yeah, probably not a legal order, but a statement made by the court. They said something very much like it, it's in the video somewhere.

Just listened to that. My summary on the measures:

  • They have to give an update to the court in one month of how they are complying with the court order.
  • They shall immediately take measures to prevent genocidal acts, pretty much verbatim quoting the genocide convention, nothing more specific.
  • They must prevent the destruction of evidence regarding that.
  • They must punish people for inciting genocide.
  • They must ensure humanitarian services.

Also, Hamas ~~must~~ is called upon to unilaterally release the hostages. Decisions on the measures were all like 15 (out of 17) in favor, more or less.

Not sure what measures South Africa wanted them to take. I'm like 99% sure this does not call for a ceasefire. It calls on Israel to stop killing, yes, but under the provisions of the genocide convention, so presumably Israel will just go on claiming what they're doing does not fall under the genocide convention. Like the court basically just quoted the genocide convention at Israel.

Anyone who votes third party, or does not vote at all, is really just voting for Biden.

Yeah, that's good.

In case anyone still cares about maps, the maps of Ukraine have seen a couple of changes in the last few days.

I was browsing through the modlog over on lemmy. It seems !worldnews@lemmy.world mods permabanned someone over this:

Removed Comment Whatabout what your mom does, down by the docks at night?

reason: childish response

Removed Comment Nelson Mandela was considered a terrorist before he was hailed as a hero.

reason: Comparing peacefull protests with actuall terrorism

Oh, there's a bunch neat quotes. Almost everybody tells him stuff that goes against the narrative that Russia is failing and Russians are just pining for some regime change.
