A VM is a good start if you're looking at obfuscating system information, but you'll still need a network connection which will most readily be accomplished through a bridged connection to your computer. You'll probably want a VPN for that and then ensure you only use that VM when the VPN is on. Without compromising usability you'll probably just want to focus on operational security here and only use that VM for WeChat.
