I totally remember reading articles about how rent control will make things worse a few years back. I can't remember the arguments but even as a lib they seemed pretty hollow and very "just trust me bro please bro no rent control trust me man"

Lmao: "The economists are right, and the populists are wrong." Jesus fucking Christ can we just house people for fucks sake god fucking dammit.

As one, I love to complain about academics, but there are a lot of good people (like most places I feel). That said, the amount of times I get "well, actually nerd "ed on a daily basis is gonna make me snap one day.

The crazy thing is he seems at least nominally anti-capitalist. He lent me a Chomsky book a while ago, and we regularly complain about the state of american politics (and not just about republicans). Whenever we discuss things where we disagree, though, he tries to like, "socratic method" me where he only asks leading questions and never just makes his point. Academics are something else.

Was discussing with a coworker today about joining the union, and how we produce x amount of value to the school, while they only pay us << x. A different coworker, a self-proclaimed anarchist, interjected about how the school obviously can't pay us the full amount we produce because of all the maintenance costs, started asking what value even means, and then asserted that "the labor theory of value itself is fundamentally incorrect". I'm so tired doomer
