It's like removing your autonomy! I can't think of what it was, but I remember this really making me upset when I was younger in one particular instance. I generally don't have any ulterior motives at all, it is irritating, like even if it's a harmless thing they think I meant it still wasn't me.

I was just thinking about a popular first hand account I read of a soldier in the American revolution. He signed up because he was broke and saw a table with soldiers offering a dollar a day to fight. Also, French troops and other non colonists helped the revolutionaries win. Thats what I'm confused about, if they have staff to run it all the time, why would they schedule people like this except to make their lives more miserable? I do know bosses love that though.
Edit: Someone pointed out people don't want to work only the swing shift or night, so they schedule like this to keep full crews, I guess that makes sense but it still sucks
