Or just.... rent a car?

If an EV supports all of my travel/commuting needs except one or two road trips per year, I'd rather just spend $65/day renting an ICE. The idea that you need to solve every problem with one privately-owned vehicle is part of why there's so many idiots using F-150s for daily commutes.

I've been fighting since Gore "lost" in 2000. It's never felt like winning.

I used to work for a winter sports store. Skis, snowboards, winter clothes, etc.

On slow days during the week, it was often just me running the floor while I had some guys doing service work in the back. So I had a day where I was alone in front of the store, doing price changes on a rack of skis. Behind me, the only customer in the shop went through every clothing rack and meticulously removed every garment from its hanger and laid it over top of the rack. When I finally caught on to what she was doing, she said, "It looked like you needed something to do!" And then she left without buying anything.

It's been at least 15 years, and I still get livid thinking about that.

Doesn't the Jurassic Park power-restore scene align with this, too? Muldoon gets wrecked by a raptor on his side, while Ellie immediately notices/dodges the one that pokes through the wiring.

School is not about socialization. Socialization absolutely happens there, but it's not the primary purpose, and it does not exclude predatory adults. See: the rampant rates of bullying and violence that occur, and get further enabled by faculty who either ignore complaints or both-sides it into victim-blaming.

Kids are not just naturally nice to one-another.Lord of the Flies is still taught in schools for a reason.

people who think “If you have done nothing wrong you have nothing to hide."

I think these people should live in a world without bathroom doors.

if only online services could implement an identity check that way.

Outside of banking and taxes, I can't think of a single online service that I want verifying my identity. Ostensibly, these services just want to verify if you're of legal age. The small, binary question of "Are you over 18?" should require much less private data than would be needed to verify my identity.

That is very region-specific in the US. Around me, rent prices have absolutely exploded while the housing market has very slightly softened vs 2 years ago.

I was having this conversation with a co-worker recently. He was buying a second home with the intention of renting it to his brother "at cost." Which is to say, his brother is paying the mortgage while he gets the equity. When I pointed out how fucked up that was, he agreed and bought the house anyway.

Counterpoint: when my wife's ex-husband was deep in the throes of heroin addiction, he managed to rob the same bank twice and get away with it both times.

You might be right that he'd be caught eventually, but he OD'd before he could try a third time.

It's not “this one has to solve everything” so much as "this one needs to even demonstrate an attempt at the promises given."

In 2008 Obama ran on codifying Roe v. Wade, but once he was in office? "It's not the time." The DNC has been lying to progressives since before I could vote.

I feel this. My in-laws voted for Trump because Biden was going to outlaw Catholicism in the United States. Absolute lunatics.
