Americans buy fireworks for every conceivable holiday, but yes New Years is second to only 4th of July in random fireworks going off everywhere.

connolly-shining anti-thatcher-action you'd best take back your comment calling Ireland an "Anglo country" trouble

I'm not sure how to break this to you, but Halloween is European. Halloween was invented in Ireland, from the pagan celebration of Samhain. Even the practice of dressing up in costume and going from door to door asking for food is recorded as of the 16th century at the latest. Pranks, as well as "Mischief Night," also dates from the 18th century at the latest. This is all pre-Americanisation. It's not a continental European tradition but it's certainly European, not American.

When a hospital sells a single ibuprofen for $50 that makes GDP go up by $50. Love2GDP econony

Anecdotal I know but a friend of a friend is an intelligence officer and was just deployed to a carrier that's headed out to the Pacific, I imagine they're on one of those boats. Probably US moving some carriers to Taiwan, since I'm sure they're thinking what we're thinking.

Unironically this is true. A significant amount of GDP all across the Western world is vastly overstated. That's why a country like Russia, that produces real things, can go toe to toe with the West in terms of artillery production despite having a tiny GDP. By any actual measure of industrial capacity and production of goods and services, China's economy is already far larger than the United States.

No, US power was irrevocably damaged after 2003. That was the terminal crisis, when they could no longer get the entire international-community-1 international-community-2 to invade Iraq. Obama had great PR, but the United States was no longer nearly as powerful as it was in the 90s.

I think he's trying to say that they're not responsible for the bombing, not that they bombed in "irresponsibly". It's like they have "irresponsibility" in that they have no "responsibility" for the strike. Granted "irresponsibility" actually means "mistrustful" but he's a senile old man under a lot of stress, give him a break Jack gosh

Biden: I will not talk about the hospital incident in Gaza unless I have confirmed information. I understand the skepticism of some around the world about who is behind the attack on the hospital in Gaza. I did not say what I said about Israel’s irresponsibility in targeting the hospital except because I trusted the source of the information… The Pentagon says it is unlikely that Israel was behind the attack on the hospital
