The aeropress is actually what got me away from drip brewers, but I drink way too much coffee for it to be my main method. It was nice to use when I was working out of the office, though.

Yes, your router can likely act as a VPN server, but I would definitely have a hardware firewall if you're going to be exposing ports to the public internet.
Also, a wifi adapter for the server is going to be better than a powerline adapter. What I did for my home lab was bought some cheap Netgear routers and turned them to bridge mode and hooked all 4 ports from the server to the router.

The problem with your scenario is that you're assuming an increase in payroll expenses will have enough of an affect on the company's profit margin for them to go negative.
This is almost never the case, and if your business can't survive without paying slave wages, then your business doesn't deserve to survive.
The truth is that companies don't want to raise wages because they're on a quest to hoard as much wealth as possible. Just look. The country is in a recession and corpos are reporting record profits.
