We don't want giants but we want companies that can compete with the giants across all markets. That way users have more choice, competition makes products better, and Europe can actually stand on its own two feet where required

Fantastic, wish they prioritised stuff like this instead of AI but at least it's here now. Now please make a dedicated contacts app so I can stop using Google contacts too!
Fair enough, I would also prefer if they pushed out an online excel/power point alternative before this or or allowed for more cloud storage.
That being said, I also don't think this is a bad thing to do. It seems to work alright so if they can at least be at that level then that's fantastic. I do wish they pooled their resources with other open source AI models cause that would be more efficient but maybe they have a good reason. I've just not looked into it cause I don't use AI that often
Never do what exactly? Continue to be private?
Imo, having Proton just copy Google but actually be private is exactly what I want. Of course, if they stray away from privacy then there will be issues. I also feel like they are making good stuff. As a subscriber myself I don't have many issues with their offering other than the stuff they don't provide but Google does.
Same for me, works great on everything. 1 caveat is that I'm paying for Proton so can't speak what it's like to use it on the free tier
I'm a bit more hopeful that this situation might finally open people eyes to this scumbag. For me, it seems he's dug his own grave since he hyped up that he would release this document and it's importance so hard that everyone expected him to release it. Of course, when he u-turned so hard that he claimed it didn't exist his base does seem to have realised this hypocrisy. I'm hopeful that once it is released and people see his name in it (at least I assume his name is in it, why else would he not release it?) then maybe he will get a big backlash.
That said, I also think there is a 50% chance that once the list gets released people may just shrug and move on. Like you said, there is other evidence they were best mates but since that came out through the courts his supporters don't believe it to be true/damning enough. I'm sure there will be plenty of names he can shout from the rooftops to distract people. Maybe he even drops more tariffs to add to the distraction. Maybe fox news happens to not mention if he is in the list and people don't bother to look at any other source.
Where is the bunny suit option?
Not sure what market your in but in Europe the price gap is not that huge, 30% max far as I can tell. Obviously that's still quite a bit when we are talking about car money but 20 vs 60 as you mention is not realistic as long as your not comparing the byd dolfin to a Mercedes.
I also never mentioned Chinese cars are poor quality. Actually they seem like quite good quality and as others have said their software seems good too though I've never driven one so I don't know. The current automakers, whilst they have the build quality sorted, the software and a few is lacking
One suggestion no one seems to suggest is to buy a second hand car. Imo, you get much more value for your money and since the car is already made you help the environment out too by not consuming something that needed to be made just for you
Aquire, own, however you want to describe gaining a car in this alternative system. The point is, getting a product that is able to be acquired for an unfair price due to the CCP propping up and protecting their own companies would still be unfair.
I agree with your want for having everyone be more cooperative. The Chinese started by being quite cooperative in building cars with western companies. I used to think that was good but now that CCP has turned it around and doesn't want to share any of their developed tech with other players, I think western business greed got the better of us. I'm not as pesemistic as others that the west is very far behind. European brands do make some killer electric cars but they may not have quite the range or quite the low price and they have not been on the market for that long.
Finally, I'm not trying to make bad faith arguments. I just disagree with your position that I'll buy a dumped Chinese car because fuck the current players for not innovating. That is how I understand your position anyway, if that's not right please explain the neuance I'm missing rather than attacking me
So your solution is change the whole system so you can buy a dumped Chinese car without any guilt?
Whilst I agree the system is broken, buying dumped goods only makes the situation worse as it means those players and playing on an uneven playing field
Same, if they made a wallet for cards then I'd actually use my phone to pay for stuff
