Your comment has made me realize that kbin lacks a "save" feature. Pardon my otherwise wasteful comment, but "saved."

It was about 5 years ago that I last used Swype, and man do I miss it. Gboard, like you said, does very well. But I recall fewer frustrations with Swype when it was still supported. Sigh...
implementing something like that would not be simple
Especially with the idea that an instance a user calls home/registered on would have to be ok with allowing a donation link to go to the instance that the user you're "gilding" is on
I remember at one point, Talklittle mentioned the addition of rewards, and how he was against them, which was convenient since Reddit didn't give third party apps access to them in the first place. I know at one point I was able to buy gold in RiF, but that was gone the moment that Reddit introduced all the other bullshit rewards.
Holy shit. The only time I'd be ok with my carrier doing that would be if I didn't have to pay them a single fucking dime. You don't get to double dip, carriers. You're already over charging for data use.
Isn't that what tburkhol addressed in their first paragraph? Or are you suggesting further steps than just putting those devices behind NAT? I am not at all trying to be snarky, I actually want to know more about this.
Are there any environmental concerns for the cemetery now that this has happened?
I wonder if that might also be partially because Tumblr has no control over other instances being ok with (appropriately marked) nsfw content. And of course, since about 2019, Tumblr has been very anti-nsfw...
But also yeah, losing $30 million annually isn't great. Maybe Tumblr should go all-in on federation though? Like, to the point of encouraging users to leave/offload from Tumblr servers and do federation? Wouldn't be easy, but if they want a longer then solution...
Wisdom is starting to gather here. But in the meantime, there's still the crazy issue with some silly software where I have to Google search and find the only helpful answers are in various Reddit threads
If you feel up for a bit of a project, you might be able to disable that "protection" with adb
