Investigation by investigative journalism outlet IStories (EN version by OCCRP) shows that Telegram uses a single, FSB-linked company as their infrastructure provider globally.

Telegram's MTProto protocol also requires a cleartext identifier to be prepended to all client-server messages.

Combined, these two choices by Telegram make it into a surveillance tool.

I am quoted in the IStories story. I also did packet captures, and I dive into the nitty-gritty technical details on my blog.

Packet captures and MTProto deobfuscation library I wrote linked therein so that others can retrace my steps and check my work.

Cool...

This one goes out to all the small government, privacy loving, Republicans out there, supposedly hating invasive big brother tactics and representing the values of the American heartland.

Would be much appreciated if you could have a word with your people about this.

France is moving to classify X as a pornographic website, a designation that would place it under the country’s mandatory age verification and digital ID laws.

This step, if finalized, would force the company to either implement robust age-gating mechanisms or restrict access to adult content altogether to avoid being cut off from younger users.

It would also mean that users have to show ID to access the platform, introducing major implications for privacy and free speech.

They can keep their shitty American products. I hate seeing Teslas everyday. Let's get independent from them as fast as possible!

Nutzerfreundlichkeit

Privacy badger is open source, so it's fine :)

Nutzer Anzahl. Plain and simple.

Liberation von US Big Tech.

Open source gets wildly abused by big business. So I'm fine with that.

Bingo! It's simply surveillance of the masses.
