In a move that has drawn widespread condemnation from the scientific and medical communities, Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. abruptly dismissed all 17 members of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) independent Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) on Monday. He swiftly replaced them with eight new appointees—many of whom are known for their criticism of vaccines and for promoting misinformation.

This sweeping overhaul has raised alarm among public health experts, who warn that the nation’s vaccine policy infrastructure is now under direct attack. Kennedy appears to be acting with breakneck speed to consolidate control and institutionalize his public health agenda before meaningful resistance can be mounted against what many are calling a scientific counter-revolution.

The government’s austerity measures have manifested in severe spending cuts across critical sectors, including healthcare, social benefits, government agencies, and civil society. Additionally, regressive tax increases, notably a 1.5 percentage point rise in the basic VAT rate to 25.5 percent, have further burdened the population.

Beyond the questionable economic outcomes, the social costs are becoming increasingly apparent. Projections indicate a 9.2 percent increase in poverty and a 13.6 percent rise in child poverty. After a period of decline, homelessness is once again on the rise, driven by cuts to social benefits and housing services. The government’s dismantling of social housing is also expected to escalate housing costs.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth appeared to acknowledge that the Pentagon has developed plans to take over Greenland and Panama by force if necessary but refused to answer repeated questions at a hotly combative congressional hearing Thursday about his use of Signal chats to discuss military operations.

Democratic members of the House Armed Services Committee repeatedly got into heated exchanges with Hegseth, with some of the toughest lines of questioning coming from military veterans as many demanded yes or no answers and he tried to avoid direct responses about his actions as Pentagon chief.

In one back-and-forth, Hegseth did provide an eyebrow-raising answer. Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., asked whether the Pentagon has developed plans to take Greenland or Panama by force if necessary.

Ah give me a break. Can't there be something that is designed specifically for women without you feeling excluded? Nobody says that you aren't allowed to participate.

[–] tfm@europe.pub 3 points 4 months ago

This was just a post to see if there already is something like described

You should definitely be working in IT at least. Don't forget that you are responsible for personal data from your users.

Price-wise it's not that expensive to host a Lemmy instance. A few hundred users cost you 20 to 30 euros a month.

Sounds racist. You see the problem?

[–] tfm@europe.pub 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I haven't written anything about excluding other genders. It's only about a women centric place with additional moderation protection and administration and moderation by women (and yes, these can also be trans women or even men admins and mods if the group decides so).

But why excluding men or anybody else from participating, as long as they stay on topic?

Division is made when you divide the people.

Having a space for women by women isn't division. It's about creating a safe space.

Just in general already against the massive structural issues with Lemmy

What structural issues?

It is a group of people who like to constantly divide

Isn't this normal human behavior? Still doesn't mean that people are enemies because of splitting into different groups.

"Are there any Lemmy/Mbin instances by women for women?"

Where is the division?

[–] tfm@europe.pub 8 points 4 months ago

Technically, not a lie.

[–] tfm@europe.pub 13 points 4 months ago (19 children)

Why would this be division?

[–] tfm@europe.pub 17 points 4 months ago

Nice architecture. Isn't it?

[–] tfm@europe.pub 13 points 4 months ago (4 children)

Why not start your own Lemmy instance? If people are interested into that, they'll join.

That's the beauty of the Fediverse. You can host your own instance and do whatever you want. But be prepared to be defederated.
