Ah I see, thanks for the extra information. Does anyone know then whether lemmy.ml honors deletion?

They might, but you will still be helping people, and if at a later date a court mandates that the authors of the training data be compensated for their actions, or if the corpus is released into open source repositories -- then I'd still call that a win for humanity.

Hmm, I agree in principle with your last sentence, but not sure how it works.

People can "edit" their posts on here, but I do wonder how that works in decentralized way since from what I understand, the ActivityPub protocol (which I think all Fediverse tech is based off (??) ) is similar to email - in the sense that I've already sent you the email with my selfie on it, and I can only request in a follow up email that you delete it.

I don't get the reactions. Are Russians not people too?

I dont like the Israeli govt, but that doesn't mean I don't like Israeli people...

It's a public portal. Everything you say publicly shouldn't be deletable, just like in a real conversation.

The difference is that someone isn't tracking your IP and username, carefully putting you into an advertisement bubble, and profiling you for future advertisers.

A damaged mod or a keen user could do these things, but that'd just be regular stalking, as opposed to a default policy that you cannot opt out of.

TLDR: Privacy on a public forum doesn't exist. At least here no one is selling you off to an advertiser.

I get no longer posting, but why delete though? This was a site that you poured hundreds of hours into, and your knowledge in niche topics could help someone (hell even your forgetful future self) in a desperate web search.

Wat. Okay, where in LL? At the bottom of the big chasm there?

Are they the ghostly statues that you find sometimes holding weapons like traveller swords and such?

Solid Snake. Can you just imagine, riding a bus with him and watching him squirm at every ding or watching him fight the urge to dive and roll behind a chair and then crawl under the seats to retrieve an empty carton of cigs?

The bargainer statues are the ones that give you and stamina, right? Ive tried to get stuff from them but for some reason they never detect that I have Poe's or other tradeable items.

I have my fingers crossed, but I still have my doubts.

I meant more that we're kidding ourselves that the site won't survive without us. I'm hoping it doesn't, but if you go there now, everything still looks alive and active.
