It doesn't seem like you actually need the https:// to parse the instance name, since the text xxxxxxxxlemmy.worldx still searches successfully. Maybe just exclude those parts off the URL and simply use lemmy.world, lemmy.ml, etc in the autocomplete list.

Hello, I commented about a bug in the instance selector on a cross post, not realizing that wasn't the actual developer. Not sure if it's related to what you're talking about here, but I wanted to bring it to your attention. Great project by the way!

By the way, neat project! It looks like it's filling a pretty big need that people having been asking for. Keep up the good work!

The home instance selector works as expected if you use the autocomplete, but it gets weird if you manually type the instance address and don't include the https://, and the / at the end.

It looks like the code is expecting those pieces to be there and truncating the first 8 and last 1 characters. So, if I only type "lemmy.world", the home_instance URL parameter gets set to just "rl", and no results are returned. I'm sure there are some premade functions out there that can extract the hostname from a URL to better handle this.

For a second, I seriously thought the fediverse logo next your username was an award 😂

WTF, the activity button is also on comments. So you can literally see a full list of users who upvoted or downvoted you.

I'm guessing it was done for transparency, but it just seems ripe for abuse. People can take things like downvotes way too seriously. I've seen unhinged users on Reddit go harassing a commenter who disagreed with them.

I do not like this "feature".

Simplest solution is often the best. To add to this, Thunderbird has what are called Local folders. If you have your other email accounts added, you can simply drag and drop everything into the Local folder to move them off the cloud and into local storage. No email server required. Definitely a good idea to take backups if storing important stuff locally though.

NSFW stuff is supposed to get cut from the API starting July 5th I believe.

From some comments I've read, it's at least in better shape than kbin? A few people expressed interest in helping with that project and then went running for the hills after reading through the code.

Thanks so much for this. I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out which instance is actually near me. Join-lemmy instance descriptions really should include servers' general locations.

As long as they're undamaged, they supposedly last quite a lot longer than their printed "best by" dates. I think it's more is a flavor and texture degradation that happens.

I guess if you just want a stockpile, then getting whole-meal type canned goods would be better, like soups, chili, pasta with sauce, etc. If you do that, avoid the cans with the pull tabs. Since their lids are made for easy opening, they can degrade sooner than regular cans.

My suggestion is just to buy extra of what you normally eat, and actually use your supply in everyday meals. Take your older cans first and continually replenish with new ones. This keeps your supply fresh.

If you don't currently use canned goods, now is the time to experiment and see what you like. Once you know your preferences, wholesale stores are pretty good for buying in bulk.
