  • No travel to the US
  • Absolutely as few American products purchased as possible - to the point of not buying carrots when I can't get local ones
  • Closing and deleting my social media accounts and cloud services
  • Avoiding American-owned companies whenever possible

In addition, I've been avoiding the worst Canadian companies when possible (specifically, the ones who really don't give a fuck about Canada) - Shopify, Loblaws, and the rest.

I played through RDR and RDR2 on a 1060 and i7-4770k, and it ran fine at 1200p. Damned shame that these cards won't ve getting updates anymore.

But they're stable as they stand and we WILL be getting security updates, so my card is going to run another year.

"Abnormal" is pretty clear - this isn't something I'd expect to see from one mom in a thousand - maybe ten thousand.

But so what? I doubt it's an unhealthy act or situation, so fuck those other 9,999 moms! Actually, don't - you have a fleshlight.

This case has been on my mind a lot lately.

It's possible that (a) they absolutely committed sexual crimes, and (b) they shouldn't be convicted.

It is the law's job to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. That means that the accusers in any case have to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt - which unfortunately means getting grilled mercilessly.

It's imperfect - it's a flawed system that lets guilty people go free. HOWEVER, better to let the guilty go free than imprison the innocent. And the thing is, as long as there isn't a perfect record of all actions and intentions, it's always going to be imperfect.

My feeling is that they five are dirtbags who at the VERY least, took gross advantage of a woman who didn't know what she was getting in to; and are almost certainly guilty in a non-legal sense of rape. But generally speaking, if the judge says there isn't enough evidence to convict them, then I'm inclined to believe the judge.

Now the real question is whether the NHL opens their arms to these shitheads, or whether they say "no, we'd rather not." Except that it's not a question - the NHL, like any sports league, will come up with an excuse to allow at least the good ones in without consequence.

I included that quote, because regardless of the outcome, it seems obvious to me that the Westons are doing this for the charitable tax writeoff and the goodwill they think they'll garner.

Trump is a psychopath. There is absolutely no cheating in his mind, unless he's caught.

If he outright kills someone, it's not murder unless he's convicted (and even then, he's find an excuse).

He doesn't understand the concept of cheating, only getting caught ("losers!") and "winning."

This reminds me - repulsively - of what Blacks went through in the mid-20th century. I'm sorry for you.

(And as an aside, "Lovecraft Country" by Matt Ruff is a fantastic supernatural horror set during Jim Crow laws.)

The Bay was drawn to the $12.5 million offer because it "substantially" exceeded the value the charter had been given during a 2022 insurance appraisal, said Adam Zalev, co-founder of Bay financial advisor Reflect Advisors, in a court filing made Wednesday.

Nope. Not a chance.

Carney has been a disappointment, even for those of us who didn't have high hopes.

They weren't.

Check out wikipedia. There was one product developed in the late 1800s ("Mum," which was zinc based), then not much happened until it was repackaged as Ban roll-on in the 1940s.

The idea that sweating is bad is very much a modern concept.

Just updated to 140.1. WTF?! This is ridiculously buggy!

I'm trying to narrow down the conditions that cause it for a bug report, but when replying, my backspace key adds a LF in the message.

I get your point, but, no.

Finding out who he's planning on damaging is important. But an article that starts with "Trump says..." is already too conciliatory.

Every article reporting Trump's insanity should be written appropriately: "In full damage-control mode Trump tries to pretend his name may have been planted in Epstein files."

"Trump violates the constitution again, in claim that..."

"Despite ruling from superior court judge, Trump pushes ahead with illegal kidnappings."

This is what the media needs to do, and every time they don't, it's a failure that doesn't deserve our attention.

My friend and I were talking about power requirements in loudspeaker design and the fact that almost all of the power is required to drive the woofers and move lots of air.

Then he asked "do basses exert more energy talking or singing than sopranos?"

Or put another way, does a lower frequency voice need more power (energy) to achieve the same volume as a high voice?

Well, kinda.

Have two computers - my main one which has a failing internal drive (doesn't contain crucial stuff) and an old Linux machine which...has a failing internal drive.

Took them both out of their corners and blew the dust out - so much dust! Reseated the cables, moved some things around, and plugged 'em back in.

The main computer has the same problem as before, so I'm recovering as much data as I can before swapping out the dead drive.

The Linux computer won't even power on now. Gonna have to look at that this weekend.

EDIT: The Linux machine is back. Turns out the power plug I used for the internal drive is...questionable. Grabbed a different one and it came up fine. Well, fine to the point of recovery at least.

The official provider is once again Flobikes - as shitty of a company as ever existed.

Even if they weren't so terrible, they charge $210/year, and that's the minimum subscription window.

So VPNs? Restreaming? Or do we just ignore the greatest bike race on earth again?

My mom died last month, and we've been cleaning out her suite. After an initial cleanup and an estate sale, we're packing the rest up for donation. Today four of us moved most of the furniture out and got almost everything packed.

Tomorrow, we'll hopefully get the rest done before my wife and I start the 3 hour drive home.
