I think they can speak for themselves, lol....

I can't be any more clear than this: hatred towards a country is banned on my instance. It's my call to make. You can point at the original comment and say, "that's not explicitly called out as a hateful comment!" but that opens a can of worms I'm not willing to deal with. Any abuser can tell a marginalized Redlemmy user that they were just kidding, or there isn't enough evidence to support the definition of "hatred" or whatever nonsense they want if we begin to allow this kind of toxic behavior.

Should my users have to endure snide comments about their gender? Their ethnicity? Then why should they be forced to tolerate it when it's targeted at their country of origin? This is what's best for my users. You've obviously found a home in a community that's more tolerant of such bigotry. It doesn't fly here.

Something else that doesn't fly with me:

As you've seen from the immense feedback you got...

The feedback I've got was mostly unfounded, biased nonsense. Would you really give up a cause you believe in because a dozen people said it was wrong of you? Grow a pair.

And finally, if you don't like my moderation style, pound sand. You can welcome hatred and bigotry on your own instance. Surely a member of "programming.dev" is capable of it.

I have no more time to donate to you. Have the day you deserve.

It's been a pleasure chatting with you.

Good catch! To be clear, this discussion thread pertains to banning a user for sidebar rule violation. Do you think that the fact that OP mentions being in Florida invalidates the violation?

[–] stinky@redlemmy.com -4 points 4 weeks ago (4 children)

My priorities in life have nothing to do with this discussion. The topic is penalty for a sidebar rule violation. Please focus. Why do you disagree that banning someone for violating the rules of my instance should result in a ban?

[–] stinky@redlemmy.com -4 points 4 weeks ago (6 children)

Please stay on topic, this won't take long.

They violated front page sidebar rules of my instance, so I banned them. What part of the process do you disagree with?

It's not ok to treat people like subhumans for any reason, and I'm glad you don't subscribe to it.

I'm sorry about your situation. It sounds more difficult than most Americans could handle by themselves.
