@Senseibu @SpaceDogs It's one of the more well known and relatively large and modern era wrecks. Probably also implications of valuables still trapped inside. It was a top of the line ocean liner and there's the added irony that it was specifically advertised as being unsinkable.

@nodsocket It's true, it's a matter of comply or cease to exist. Had a buddy ran an ISP years back and he showed me one of the little "black boxes" he would be given to put on his network because he had users who were persons of interest. He wasn't even supposed to tell me that much. He's as independentist as they come and he really had no choice, it was either comply or be shut down.
the what now? ☹️
wholesome rule
@bloubz https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tankie basically the origins of the term is from those who supported Stalinist military incursions into Czechoslovakia and Hungary to oppose anti-Soviet-government agitation.
So basically tankie == authoritarian marxist-leninist. The red-brown alliance kind of folks.
@Puffymumpkins That's about how I remember it. Having your own webpage, running servers from your PC, dabbling in all kinds of new communication methods.
Heck, friend of mine ran an email and shell account ISP from his bedroom for a number of years.
@moss @gravelsDrachma If its appearance in my masto feed is any indication, it's quite busy! at least by lemmy standards
For cars it's racing, for planes it's military, for CPUs/GPUs it's gaming, and for communication and graphics/video, it's porn.
This goes back pretty far, too, as the original test image for image compression techniques was a crop of a Playboy model. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenna
