Soooo I hadn't heard this before. I signed up for the second-most popular lemmy instance when I was just poking around without a serious commitment. I know hexbear has been crazy but didn't know lemmy.ml had a poor rep as well. As a very casual user that just wants to support a more diverse ecosystem which instance would you or others recommend?

Nice one! I have heard it called a fuzzy JPG of the internet.
Thanks for the explanation... but that's horrible how much emotional pain you and your peers had to suffer through for education :(
One's even bigger than the other!
Old comment, I know, but have you looked into the deep sleep option if on Linux? Also, there are massive power draws with some of the modules. I only keep one USB C module installed because of the power drain. It's maddening since it kinda was a selling point but my battery life is great on the OG 11
I live life dangerously and don't bother with protectors. Neither the deck nor my phones!
That's good to hear, and I really would love for things to get sorted out. Gimp 3.x has many improvements for sure but there's a long way to go and actually releasing these improvements is necessary...
If gimp can become another blender that would be incredible.
They've been completely dropping the ball for years. I used to donate regularly but have completely given up on this project. It's a farce at this point.
Thankfully I only have simple needs so Krita suffices and I don't have to deal with the never-improving UX nightmare and never-releasing changes.
Yeah, I'm salty. It's just that GIMP was a shining star of FOSS and it's just been slowly rotting from inaction.
Interesting point. I wonder if this person spent hours trying to get that kind of junk working without an understanding of the OS (Their comfort level was hinted at through the article)
