I hate how when there is any picture of Soviet blocks it's always shot in autumn or winter when it's overcast. I live in an ex Soviet country and when these bad boys are maintained they can outperform new apartments, be it in functionality, amenities or price.

Used to do this, however nowadays I worry it will fuck up their YouTube and they won't be able to fix it themselves lol

Asked ChatGPT to tldr:

The study suggests that the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) could reach a tipping point this century, potentially around mid-century. This has drawn both attention and skepticism. One argument is about the data used to describe AMOC changes. They rely on sea surface temperatures in a specific region, and various indicators seem to align with AMOC reconstructions. Another criticism is the assumption that AMOC behavior follows a quadratic curve near the tipping point. However, this assumption seems plausible based on historical models. Regardless of certainty, the focus is on minimizing risks by transitioning away from fossil fuels to prevent potential catastrophic consequences of an AMOC collapse.

Mixing Vaseline with cotton and rolling it into small balls makes for surprisingly effective firestarter. Catches fire from almost everything (even flint and steel) and the burns with strong flame for like 2 minutes.

A severe heatwave is ongoing in Europe. Temperature records broken in France, Switzerland, Germany and Spain.

On 11 July 2023, the Land Surface Temperature (LST) in some areas of Extremadura (Spain) exceeded 60°C, as highlighted in this data visualisation derived from measurements from the Copernicus Sentinel-3 Sea and Land Surface Temperature Radiometer (SLSTR) instrument. The ongoing heatwave in Spain this week is resulting in a total of 13 autonomous communities, being at extreme risk (red alert), significant risk (orange alert), and risk (yellow alert) due to maximum temperatures that, in some cases, will exceed 40°C and reach a maximum of 43°C.

For reference, "in areas where vegetation is dense, the land surface temperature never rises above 35°C. The hottest land surface temperatures on Earth are in plant-free desert landscapes."
