There's no call to be less good or less yourself. But it's helpful to have stress management, relaxation, and self-support skills along with tempered expectations to maintain a healthy mental state. Then the rewards that never materialize aren't as big a deal.

Yeah, after reading about her being very public and adamantly against the troubled teen torture camps, I had to really confront the assumptions I'd made about her in the past. She's a very privileged person who's doing an important thing for some of the most vulnerable people in society. I have a ton of respect for her!
