I appreciate the answer!

I myself am not a vegan at all, in practice, though I am familiar with ... many of the frames that you can look at meat consumption through, and, correctly, imo, conclude that it is a wasteful, destructive, and morally dubious practice... and I do try to minimize my meat intake, but its fairly difficult when I am disabled, don't have a car, can't do significant meal prep due to injuries, live off of disability pay alone, can barely afford to get groceries delivered to me, because no local food banks or charities that I qualify for do actual home delivery.

I've been moving toward a lot more shelf stable, basic type stuff lately, rice and beans... but also crockpot soups with meat, spam is fairly simple to cook..., so, yeah, I am not a vegan.

But uh, the 'if it tries to run away' metric seems to be roughly where I would land on this as well... I guess I would just the line a bit higher than ... a clam... I personally would think that... basically most insects (ararchnids are another story)... from what I understand of their neurology... they do not really seem to be capable of suffering...

Well fuck, I am generally apparently wrong about that.

Thank you, and again the other replier, for spurring me to give this subject more consideration.

They probably are not broadly lying about AI replacement being the main factor.

Turns out... Amazon runs AWS for businesses... and also Amazon.com the online retail megastore and logistics service.

Every other business is laying people off?

Less B2B AWS demand.

Everyone is now unemployed?

Less consumer demand, downsize all aspects of Amazon.com storefront and logistics.

...

I'd actually argue that any serious modern economist should be paying attention to AWS and other enterprise level, scalable server solutions...

... That's a leading indicator of at this point, of broad economic conditions.

If AWS and similar departments at similar companies... stop expanding so much, when the rest of the economy seems to be doing ok?

Yeah, that means growth in demand for basically core business software infrastructure is stalling, and it'll take 6 to 18 months to filter through to the rest of the economy and become apparent in other metrics.

twinkle twinkle little star,

I was first alerted to it by Status Coup news on youtube... but uh, most lemmy news comms only allow, you know, written articles.

Hey maybe courthousenews counts as a legit, written source?

Post it everywhere if you want to, not like I own the idea of linking to them, rofl!

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 month ago

Exactly.

In the letter, Luigi's defense also notes that fucking none of that would be relevant to the case anyway.

I... I don't know.

It could go either way?

Like uh... if you go with more of the 'your local connection to the Matrix.exe has crashed' intepretation...

In video games, you'll sometimes get a player character who is badly lagging that just uh, freezes, or gets stuck in some nonsense continuous repetiton of their last valid inputs...

???

...

The Kid actually permanently gets out, and is recovered, ends up in Zion.

Not sure what happens to his 'body'.

The sprinter does not get out, his 'body' does remain.

The sprinter basically runs so fucking hard that he ... well his 'hallucination exit experience' is that he sort of... runs through the code of the matrix itself, which collapses around him... then he wakes up in the pod, then a machine comes up to him and basically zaps the fuck out of him, and he blacks out.

Meanwhile, while that is going on in the real world...

In the matrix, he basically either flatlines or goes into a coma, and its kinda like the video game analogy, his digital avatar just ragdolls and tumbles across the finish line in a very grotesque manner... but he does win that World Record...

Then, he later wakes up, in the Matrix, in a hospital, mostly paralyzed, seemingly brain damaged... but he has moments where ... he remembers this reality is all bullshit, and... can again transcend his 'Matrix-physical' broken body... and walk out of his wheelchair, I think even levitate.

...

So... maybe put that all together, and if you self substantiate, the code evaporation thing doesn't happen, because that effect is some kind of intrinsic to whatever the humans of Zion are Io are using to literally hack you out of the Matrix?

In MxO, you functionally had a 'mage' class by way of all the various 'Hacker' skill trees and branches.

The way thats depicted is uh... instead of punching or shooting someone... they just make hand motions like they are typing, a hologram of a keyboard appears, and then your opponent suffers some debuff, with similarly styled 'code stream' effects on them.

Couldn't this character be considerably more effective at hating plants by say, breeding swarms of locusts?

... Would they consider eating locusts... to be eating meat?

No, hey, actually serious:

Vegans, does a locust, a cricket, an ant... does eating a bug count as eating a sentient, emotionally feeling, living being?

That and the HOA / NIMBY crowd.

They hate affordable housing.

That means they make less money.

That means their property values go down if housing is just generally cheaper.

Thus, anything, literally anything that lowers construction costs is opposed by them.

...

They climbed the ladder over the wall, then they built the wall higher, and took away the ladder.

They will fight for every single possible, arbitrary costly thing that can be tacked on to make a 'bare minimum viable housing unit' as expensive as possible, because they are directly financially incentivized to do so, vis a vis their own wealth being reliant on property values never ever going down, in real or nominal or relative terms.

No public transit, no bike lanes, no rent a bike/scooters, no tax breaks nor subsidy programs for renters at anywhere near the scope and magnitude offered to homeowners, no solutions for food deserts, no tenants rights, no goddamned nothing that in a direct or indirect way might make their next home value on appraisal go up by too little, or their property taxes go up by too much.

They are demons, they want you to be broke and suffer so they can be rich and lazy, and they will lie to your face about this being their motivatiom, and they will hire others to do so.

Landowners vs non-landowners, tale as old as time, just looks a bit different in our particular setting.

I mean, said corporations are empowered to be able to do this by authoritarian governments that are largely bought and paid for by said corporations, who now run said failed democracies as puppet governments of corporate interests.

The mirror thing is exclusive to the Analyst's version of the Matrix that we see in Resurrections. "Io" is their new home after Zion was destroyed.

Ah!

Ok, ok, that makes sense... I have not committed the 4th movie to memory anywhere near as much as I have with the OT era stuff.

I think there was an interview with one of the Wachowskis that implied the liquid mirror was just Neo's reality bending experience. Other people may experience different types of hallucinations, and even other people in the room may not see what their hallucination is. They are probably just observed to fade out into code like when they use a telephone.

I remember that as well, and I agree that your minor extraploation at the end seems likely.

...

I appreciate you expanding on the details I forgot =P

...

Though I would add that the Animatrix shows that the uh, exiting the Matrix phenomenon... may be different for self-substantiators... the Kid is reported as dead after his 'leap of faith'.

IIRC, there are scenes of an actual funeral? His parents mourn him as dead? Its a whole local news phenomenon that he 'suicided'?

It could be that his uh... Matrix-physical? body did not evaporate into code...

...or it could be that the Matrix / the Agents executed an elaborate coverup, that the Kid's 'body' did 'code evaporate', and they just whipped up a doppleganger body and gaslit/intimidated the hell out of any witnesses of the body 'evaporating', faked all the media coverage, etc.
