I don't think the combat can be saved by better antagonists. The real issue is the author is atrocious at writing characters with a plan of action. The use of flashbacks and over explanatory dialogue here is painful. This might not be so bad if they weren't so insistent on trying to show their protagonist effortlessly outsmarting her opponents.

It's not just a show thing unfortunately, it's faithfully replicating the manga here.

To be clear, I still really like Frieren. It has cozy vibes and a really unique perspective.

My complaint is I wish they spent less time fighting monsters and more chilling in random villages to learn a spell that bakes bread.

Kind of an easy question for me.

I've studied Italian before and while I dropped it pretty early, of the language classes I took I found it pretty comfortable to learn. If I wanted to become fluent I feel confident I could. I've actually been debating whether to take it or a French course as a hobby lately.

With Chinese I've had difficulty even differentiating words or learning basic phrases from friends who speak it. I don't think I could become fluent even if I dedicated myself. Getting it by magic is the only way I'm going to learn it. It's also by far the more useful of the two languages.

came here to point that out as well lol

Yeah, I've seen An Idiot Abroad and quiet enjoyed it. Different vibes though, Karl is incurious and is being pushed into it (which is entertaining in it's own right). John is absolutely doing it of his own volition, though I don't fully understand why, and is deeply curious. There's also a palpable sense of desperation and danger that comes from being someone's life, instead of a well funded work holiday.

I have never been more confused by the popularity of a game. Adding guns to Pokemon just ruins the vibe. What do people see in this?

I'm reading Erdogan Pizza by John Dolan. It's a collection of real travelogues from an utterly unadventurous, shy nerd who keeps managing to get kicked out of third world countries while being dead broke. I couldn't imagine a greater mismatch between the personality of someone and how they've chosen to live their life. Very amusing.

I reckon I'd have severely diminishing returns past 6 figures, and I would (and do) trade income for less hours with a better work environment well before that.

I continue to inch closer to madness by gazing at local social media, this time various subreddits related to my country and city.

Now we're talking money. I am watching people who earn several times more than me and with no dependents claim they cannot afford to live. Where the fuck is their money going? I live pretty comfortably. Also they seem to think the average person earns way more than they actually do.

A lot of these same people are basically parroting the welfare queens bullshit too. Welfare is a tiny of fraction of the income these freaks are claiming. I'd love to see them try to get by on it.

However, wherever I go, there’s always going to be drama, so wouldn’t it be wiser to stay with the bad I already know?

If you're asking how to find the "mental fortitude" to stay, it's probably better to leave.

Also for what it's worth, most of my jobs have been fairly drama free. Some of them have still been utterly shit for other reasons but there doesn't always have to be drama. You've got a weird lot at the moment, a coworker who keeps to themselves is usually a plus not something to get upset over.

I can't wait until we get Tron 4: Part 1 and Tron 4: Part 2, collectively known as the TR4NS movies

spoilerI know at least one person who realised she was trans when she wanted to be Olivia Wilde in Tron 2 more than she wanted to sleep with her.

Is the book so obscure that you wouldn't be able to get a digital copy you could just paste into Chat GPT?
