Xbox controllers work with windows with pretty much zero configuration. Either use USB or the appropriate receiver dongle. This probably contributes a lot to it's popularity.
Also the older and newer style controllers likely all just report as Xbox controllers and the wired 360 controllers are dirt cheap

I think they're saying that on average people don't jack it EVERY day, just most days.
If there's one thing the pandemic has made clear, it's that there's a lot of crazy assholes out there.
If it's setup right you can even connect as if you're on the same local network. Or connect using device name as you set it in the admin panel. There's a bunch of stuff you can do
+1 for tail scale. I installed it to get a feel for how hard it'd be to setup. I had it running in 15min on multiple devices via the tail net.
Ah man. Now I'm gonna have to pull out the ol red alert 2. The only game I've played where 10 hours just disappeared. Started just after breakfast and next thing I realise, everyone in the house is fast asleep and it's pitch black outside.
