It's well known on the games industry that their largest competitor is now themselves - 10 years ago. You're not just selling a new game, but you're selling a new game that people need to choose to spend money on or replay an old one they love.

They have a real motive to kill games. If we can't play the good ones from a decade ago then we'll have to buy the new ones!

Think about how scary and tough life is on your own. Think about everything bad that's happening, and realizing that no one is in control. This we are all aware of, but we choose to confront that. Christians at least (because it's who I grew up with so I just have the most experience) find comfort in their church. It gives them the feeling that there is someone in charge, that it's not all just chaos but there is a plan, and rules, and a defined right and wrong. (Again, ignoring all the things wrong with the church, just from my examples).

Believing allows them to not have to worry about the world. There's a plan. It's not chaos. It's safe. To me it's very natural why people choose it, it's honestly scary facing the chaotic real world we have, and I honestly don't think most people can handle it.

I was not, but sadly not surprised. It's a horrible industry by itself, let alone for kids. Which is why I mean what I said, even some of the worst people had horrible stuff inflicted on them. Violence begets violence. It doesn't excuse it, but I think we are too quick to judge in our society that someone is evil, and it's easy to condemn on the internet.

But if they lose power for 20 minutes god save you from their wrath

People are complex. We are capable of both bad things and still can do good things like calling out others. We aren't plainly bad or good ever.

I think he did something, I don't remember. It doesn't change my point, that he can be a bad person for doing something and still have a valid thing to say here.

For him, I wonder how many of his behaviors were driven because he was a child star. That's a lifestyle with a known track record of screwing kids up

Interesting how those more fun aspects used to just be called "the game"

You forgot the overdue heated seat bill on the nightstand

Yeah refuse to believe it's real until it's in my hands. Markets and suits want us to be hyped, but I've been fooled before.

[–] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Which, we knew. It's why we shouldn't run out to replace ice with ev but if you're in the market for a new vehicle, then go ev. Plus this is an old old argument from conservatives, it's been proven many times that the environmental impacts are offset after a year or so of driving compared to driving ICE

Volcanic hands down

Even if it was good, the formula you mentioned has been done to death. Every game they make is that. Then they say how can we possibly make an RDR2 level game, and I think to that and there was a game where honestly the gameplay was pretty repetitive - but you don't notice because the story is so good that of course you want to keep going.

But they make these bland corporate characters with boring stories and take absolutely zero risks because what if we offend one person in Ohio - and then it sells like crap. You try to make it for everyone, you made it for no one

Why would we be excited or happy about this? They can still cancel it at any moment. It's not real until it's released.

Or by her participating that she is knowingly involving herself in a scam. Which, yeah, it's just books - but it's pretty obviously a pyramid.

No shame if you don't see how it's a scam, the cozy blanket and glass of wine are meant to throw you, and they chose 36 because it's a confusing enough number where you don't think too much about how it grows.

She gives one book to her upline. She then sends out post to 36 more people to give her 36 books. Each one of them then needs to find 36 people each, which is now 1296 people in that level if they each want 36 books. Thus the exponential pyramid. Of course there is zero way each of them will find that many people, let alone the levels below that. It's a scam that benefits those higher up, and the ones lower will likely not receive anything.

Of course she sees nothing wrong with that. She said "Sometimes I get books, sometimes I don't, that's just part of the game". Which... it's not a game when it's real money being passed around.

On top of that, whenever we see a pyramid scheme we should be stamping it out - hard. Folks, please spot the signs and point them out. Don't be afraid to comment on posts calling them out as scams.

Edit: To be clear the idea of a growing book exchange isn't a bad one, as explained in the comments though the way to make it not a scam is to make it 1:1. You either send a book and receive a book, or if they like the 36 number, you change it to "I'll send a book to whoever sends me a book!". Then it's a true book exchange.

This is way back when but kinda cool ... During my Oops Tour, I got a knock at my door. My good friend at the time was the assistant to my manager who was trying to become a manager himself. There was a knock, and then he said, “I have a girl named Taylor who wants to come in and sing for you.” I was like of course !!! He walks in, and she sings a beautiful song with her guitar 🎸 I was like wow wow she's unbelievable !!! We took a picture, and she then became the most iconic pop woman of our generation. Kinda cool she plays stadiums, and I prefer her videos over movies any day. She's stunning !!! Girl crush 💄 💄 💄 Ps mom I love you so so much, but there were 3 dolls in the cabinets when I went home 2 years ago … kinda really weird you would take them out and then put them back in … so messed up. Nope, I don't want them. Keep it all. I honestly don't care anymore … honestly though.

Kiosk OS? (poptalk.scrubbles.tech)

Hey Folks, I've made a couple kiosks in the past around the house, but I'm hoping there's an easier solution out there. Previously I'd install raspbian or something on to a pi and then remote into a full-screened chromium to set it up.

Does anyone know of a good OS that theoretically boot directly to a URL with minimal effort? Like I said I can do it manually but I'd like something pre-built for the task.

Bonus points if it would have a web-configurator, I may want to change the URL it's using occasionally and it'd be nice not to have to remote in directly.

Seriously launched the app (by accident today) and what is this? They're trying to play the victim from the big bad ad blockers saying all they're doing is trying to show an ad at the beginning of video, and then I see all of this crap.

This was after a non-skippable ad at the beginning followed by a totally real "survey" that it wanted me to fill out, one interruption so far in the content, and now three ads on the screen. That's 45% of the screen dedicated to ads. Freaking ridiculous. "But please turn off your ad blocker".

Hello everyone!

Waving Pioneer emote

You've probably seen me posting random screenshots to the feed over the last few weeks, and I've been around for a while. As of yesterday I have been granted mod status by @cosmicrose@lemmy.world here in Satisfactory!

Don't worry, I don't plan on anything really changing at all. That being said, please feel free to let me know if there's anything we can do here to make things better.

Things I'd like to start posting -

  • Post official videos here, but not so much that it gets spammy.
    • (Probably not dev logs, but the official videos)
  • Major bugs/features

Per Ficsit requirements I have to provide my credentials, so know that Satisfactory is officially my most played game of all time, I've crossed over 1,400 hours playing it personally. Every year for the last 5 years now I play online with a friend and we build a new factory from Tier 0 to finishing Phase 4. I'm extremely happy to help mod here, and hopefully help out answering questions, bugs, optimization, or I'm always happy to give out ideas for builds. Don't hesitate to ping me!

Now, that being said, another screenshot for you because I'm proud of my last build and I'm excited to get started on a new build.

Night builds at the World Hole

We challenged ourselves to take advantage of the World Hole near Grassey Fields in the last build. This was because 1) The verticality of the area makes the build really interesting where you can't spread out and 2) The sooner we paved over the hole the sooner we'd stop falling into it. Over time it forced us to build up, and thus the cyberpunk-esque build started.

Here you're looking at the most successful subsidiary of the World Hole base, Applied Computing, making a few hundred Computers per minute.

I don’t normally stream, but I’m trying out self hosting Owncast here on the Fediverse, subscribable through Mastodon. Trying out CP2077 w/Phantom Liberty, 4th main story playthrough and first for the DLC. Come watch if that’s your thing, one less service on Twitch/Youtube!

Caterium 2: Paradise Island

Second Caterium build in Factory v3.0 (my last save), this caterium is the secondary Quickwire production facility, and primary Electromagnetic Control Rods facility. It processes 3,020 caterium/min.

Rush hour at Rocky Junction

Rocky Junction because the location of our hub in our 3rd factory, as I needed a huge space to merge our train network to. There is no production at Rocky Junction, but there are 23 platforms for solid goods and 4 liquid platforms in an adjoining area. Everything is built on top of a 10-foundation tall substructure where sorting happens. Rocky Junction was the nexus of our 3 (4-track) mainlines, the Gold Coast mainline, the North Coast mainline, and the Red Forest mainline

My friends and I are going to be starting our 4th factory in December (and I'm thinking about streaming it this time here on the fediverse).

Before we start our 4th though I'm revisiting our last factory. Never finished Phase 4 on that one... no golden cup this time. But to help boost our content I'm going to share my favorite builds from that as I reminisce, if that's okay with everyone.

My friends and I usually do an annual factory, starting late December and usually put about 400 hours into it each time. (Obligatory power plant screenshot provided) We, may have a problem. That aside, this year is interesting - no big release, no big update, except for U8.

We all pretty much stopped right around U8, and when it first came out it looked gorgeous, but everything broke in our huge factory pretty much instantly. I’ve poked my head in a couple of times, and from what I can tell Unreal 5 is amazingly performant, we went from 24ish FPS to 60+ in our final version, and things like train “rubber banding” from our server seems to be lessened.

But I want to know, as we’re looking towards it hitting stable, how are all of you doing with Update 8? How are dedicated servers? Is it best to start a new save with the major update?
