This sort of discrimination is very real. I work in vocational rehabilitation and I’ve had to have these sort of frank discussions with clients, especially if they aren’t getting interviews when they’re well qualified.

You are right about government hiring taking forever. It took me about 5-6 months from the time I applied to my first government job to actually starting.

I don’t think that definition is widely accepted. I think most people generally believe racism is characterized by or showing prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized.

If you are white and call yourself white, most people would not consider that a racist statement.

This is beautiful! I would be so touched if my partner went to all this trouble to make me something like this.

That story made me sick. The criminal justice system in the US is unimaginably cruel and fucked up.

I didn’t realize the vaccine conspiracy theory community moved on to dogs, but I guess it’s not really surprising. Follow the advice of your vet, not your weird uncle’s Facebook posts.

Patton Oswalt and Michelle Buteau. Kind of an odd pairing considering their comedy is very different, but they both make me regularly wheeze laugh.

Broad City is one of my favorite female led comedies! In general, I think Tina Fey and Amy Poehler make comedy that fits the bill. I also enjoyed Crazy Ex Girlfriend.

I agree, the plant looks fairly large compared to the pot. It would probably appreciate a bit more space.

Having an ad-free Pinterest-esque option sounds like a dream. I stopped using it a while ago because of all the obnoxious ads.

I don’t think I’ve seen hunting content on Lemmy before, but who knows, maybe there are people who are interested in it. I have never hunted, but I guess I technically learned something from it myself.
