U.S. imperialism carried out a massive bombing raid on Venezuelan territory in the early hours of the morning using warplanes and combat helicopters. This attack represents a leap forward in imperialist interference in Venezuela, with direct military aggression on the territory of the Latin American country. Explosions have been reported in several locations, including strategic military installations such as Fort Tiuna and La Carlota Air Base. Explosions were also reported in the country’s capital, Caracas, and in the states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira.

For its part, the Venezuelan government denounced the U.S. attack and took to state television to announce the first measures in response: “The immediate deployment of the Command for the Integral Defense of the Nation and the Organs of Direction for Integral Defense in all states and municipalities of the country has been ordered.” A state of internal unrest was also declared, and it was announced that the country would immediately resort to armed struggle.

On Truth Social, President Donald Trump claimed that Nicolás Maduro and his wife had been captured. He also stated, “They took away our oil rights. We had a lot of oil there. They expelled our companies. And we want it back.” If there was any doubt, Trump’s post says the quiet part out loud, naming the imperialist interests behind the bombing.

Meanwhile, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez stated that he was unaware of Maduro’s whereabouts and demanded that the United States provide proof of life for the Venezuelan president.

For his part, in a new act of blatant sycophancy, Argentine President Javier Milei celebrated the bombing of Venezuelan territory and Maduro’s capture by writing, “Freedom advances. Long live freedom, damn it!”

We condemn this imperialist aggression by the United States, and it is essential to stand up and fight back. We must mobilize across the continent to demand the immediate and total cessation of U.S. military intervention, the withdrawal of all U.S. forces from Venezuela and the Caribbean, and the lifting of the blockade and sanctions that affect the working class and oppressed. We affirm our unconditional solidarity with the Venezuelan people against all imperialist interference.

In the belly of the imperialist beast, it is essential to speak out and mobilize immediately. We must call on our unions to issue statements, like one PSC-CUNY, the faculty, staff, and graduate assistant union at the City University of New York, has already issued, and also to mobilize members to the streets against this attack. All those who mobilized in the movement for Palestine against U.S. brutality in Gaza must also stand up against this new blatant imperialist aggression, building a stronger anti-imperialist movement across the country.

U.S. troops out of the Caribbean and Latin America! And extend the anti-imperialist mobilization across the continent!

After threatening to do so for several months, the United States has launched a direct military attack on the sovereign nation of Venezuela. Images and videos show multiple explosions occurred in the capital Caracas, as well as Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira. Venezuelans additionally reported the presence of low-flying aircraft.

BREAKING: Explosions are rocking Caracas, Venezuela while their citizens are sleeping, as it appears the so-called "Peace President" trump is starting a war without Congress' approval.

While the US initially did not admit to perpetrating the attacks, it has since taken responsibility. It also claims to have captured president Nicolás Maduro and flown him out of the country.

The “Peace President” just announced a unilateral bombing & regime change in Venezuela – no Congress – then schedules a press conference at Mar-a-Lago, the same venue where Vanilla Ice recently performed with a Ninja Turtle.

America is no longer a serious country. pic.twitter.com/bSBm4IUQxY

— Canada Hates Trump (@AntiTrumpCanada) January 3, 2026

Of course, Donald Trump openly admitted in 2023 exactly why he would want to attack Venezuela: its oil:

Trump has, in recent years, been very open about why he wants to pursue regime change in Venezuela. It's about the oil, pure and simple.

And any media organisation which doesn't foreground this context is simply low-information parrot squawk. https://t.co/HzDQDkTHLq

— Ash Sarkar (@AyoCaesar) January 3, 2026

Yet so far, much of the corporate media has either failed to centre the US’s potential resource grab in the story – or, like the BBC, even mention it at all. Both Sky News and the Independent mentioned Trump’s end-game over oil in passing in their live coverage. Yet the Financial Times said nothing at all.

Multiple US strikes on Venezuela

Several sources published images and videos of the US attack on Venezuela, including Mohamad Safa who works with the UN:

The United States is bombing Venezuela while the people are asleep!

Venezuela produces less than 1% of the world’s illegal drugs. But they do have the world’s largest proven oil reserve.

Still think this is really about stopping the cartels? pic.twitter.com/N1iJHzbZfz

— Mohamad Safa (@mhdksafa) January 3, 2026

Marwa Osman of Press TV shared the following video:

This is what Caracas looks like right now… another country under attack by U.S. imperialism, without a single prior provocation. Venezuela has never killed a single American citizen.

— Marwa Osman || مروة عثمان (@Marwa__Osman) January 3, 2026

Drop Site and Hasan Piker also commented on the unfolding situation:

Kidnapped

Several hours after the attack, the US claimed to have captured Maduro and to have flown him out of the country. America had a $50m reward out for Maduro’s capture.

Delcy Eloína Rodríguez Gómez, the vice president of Venezuela, has confirmed they do not know where Maduro and his wife are. She has also demanded “immediate proof of life”.

The defence minister, meanwhile, has said Venezuela will “resist” foreign troops should the US launch a ground invasion. Since this statement, they have deployed the armed forces nationwide.

— War Monitor (@WarMonitors) January 3, 2026

The US, meanwhile, has said there will be ‘no further action’ following the kidnapping. This information comes from a conversation between senator Mike Lee and secretary of state Marco Rubio.

Many have criticised America’s latest intervention, including Jeremy Corbyn of Your Party:

The US has launched an unprovoked and illegal attack on Venezuela.

This is a brazen attempt to secure control over Venezuelan natural resources.

It is an act of war that puts the lives of millions of people at risk — and should be condemned by anyone who believes in sovereignty…

— Jeremy Corbyn (@jeremycorbyn) January 3, 2026

People have also linked the aggression towards Venezuela with the country’s oil reserves, including Your Party’s Zarah Sultana:

Venezuela has the world’s largest oil reserves — and that’s no coincidence.

This is naked U.S. imperialism: an illegal assault on Caracas aimed at overthrowing a sovereign government and plundering its resources.

Starmer’s Labour government must condemn this unequivocally.…

In April of 2024, the mood within the occupied Palestinian territories was tense. Israeli regime had launched strikes on Damascus aimed at the Iranian diplomatic mission, resulting in the martyrdom of Islamic Revolution Guards (IRGC) Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and other senior officers.

The escalation was unprecedented in terms of the Israeli aggression within the region – the occupation’s arrogance in the face of a multi-front resistance campaign against it forced it to sink to new lows in terms of its criminal ambitions within the region.

The strike on an Iranian embassy was a red line that Tehran had promised would not go unanswered.

Tehran vowed strong retaliation. During the year’s Quds Day procession, which came a few days after the Israeli aggression, the Iranian public demanded revenge, and the political and military leadership vowed to deliver.

As Iran made preparations for retaliation, the Israeli occupation was already confounded in a multi-front war. Within Gaza, Israel’s occupation was reaching its sixth month with no results to show for stopping the resistance.

Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and other groups were posting near-daily videos of point-blank confrontations with Israeli military tanks, demonstrating to the world the steadfastness and bravery of the Palestinian resistance and the legitimacy of their cause.

In the northern occupied territories, Hezbollah was raining down drones and rockets, creating a crisis for Zionist settlers as they were forced to flee. The north’s economy came to a standstill as the Lebanese resistance targeted and destroyed strategic surveillance equipment, outposts, depots, and barracks.

By their own admission, Zionist forces are still unable to return settlers to the north to this day because of the damage and the threat of Hezbollah’s arms.

To the east, Iraqi resistance forces from the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) lobbed rockets and drones into the occupied Golan and Eilat docks with the assistance of a then-friendly Syria, which functioned as a route for arms, logistical support, and an early-warning response system for Zionist aggression.

Eilat was also a popular target of Yemen’s Ansarallah resistance movement, which, through its Red Sea blockade and targeting of Israeli occupation ports, forced the port of Eilat to a total halt.

On April 14, the IRGC finally delivered what was described as the “Operation True Promise.”

Pounding Tel Aviv and military installations in the Negev for the first time, the IRGC deployed dozens of drones and missiles that pounded the occupation entity, striking key targets while evading and exhausting the much-hyped “Iron Dome” air defense system.

Marketed as a complete block of aerial assaults against the entity, Iran reduced this system to a mere myth, all while taking note of the Israeli occupation’s weak points, defensive maneuvers, and overall behavior for strikes that would come again on October 1st (True Promise II) and in June 2025 (True Promise III/ the “Twelve Day War).

Leading to and during the operation, all limbs of the resistance were moving – from Yemen, Iraq, and Lebanon came rockets and drones. The transfer of intelligence on the enemy paved the way for each group’s success. The “ring of fire” – as the Israeli Occupation had dubbed it – was in effect.

This cooperation was not driven by spontaneous self-interest on either party’s part. This cooperation, from the bullets and rockets that landed on enemy positions to the intelligence shared to make the launches successful, was the doctrine of resistance created by Martyr Lieutenant General Haj Qassem Soleimani – the late commander of the IRGC’s Quds Force.

Architecture of resistance: Palestine and Lebanon

General Soleimani achieved martyrdom on January 3, 2020 in a US drone strike that targeted him and PMF commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis while he was on a diplomatic mission in Baghdad, Iraq.

The cowardly assassination of the two resistance leaders sparked anger worldwide, as the United States engaged in a clear act of war, resulting in marches and demonstrations that spilled into the very cities of the United States.

General Soleimani’s funeral was attended by millions from Iraq to Iran, from Palestine to Pakistan, from New York to London, as people gathered in the streets to pledge allegiance to the late anti-terror commander’s cause – resistance against the empire, against the terrorist Israeli entity.

For the first time, many in the West asked themselves: Who was Qassem Soleimani?

A veteran of the Holy Defense against West-backed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s aggression on Iran, General Soleimani’s steadfastness, intelligence, and bravery in battle allowed him to climb the ranks of IRGC leadership in 1998, specifically in the Quds Force.

Remaining firm to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s commitment to the liberation of Palestine, General Soleimani began critical work in coordinating with the Palestinian resistance in the late 90s and early 2000’s during the Second Intifada.

Meeting with Palestinian resistance leaders, including Hamas founder and martyr Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, General Soleimani established a working committee between the different Palestinian factions that dispelled all myths of sectarianism between Palestinian resistance and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He oversaw the shipment of thousands of weapons into the hands of the Palestinian resistance – weapons that are still wielded to great effect today. But the real assistance provided by General Soleimani was the training and self-sufficiency that he cultivated within the Palestinian resistance.

General Soleimani understood the aggressive, homicidal nature of the illegitimate Israeli entity – assassinations, bombings and sabotage, without regard for civilian lives. He understood that weapons shipments can be intercepted, bugged, or sabotaged. From this calculus, he understood that, for the resistance to succeed, they had to work with what they had – on terrain they knew.

This understanding paved the way for the development of tunnels underneath Gaza and the rockets that were then launched into Tel Aviv from Gaza.

In 2021, a Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement representative said that General Soleimani developed “Palestinians’ resistance from stone to the missile.”

It was shortly after the conclusion of the Second Intifada that the Israeli attempted invasion of Lebanon would begin in 2006, which brought – until this year – Israel’s most crippling humiliation. Israeli military tanks and helicopters fell while Israeli troops were deterred from the Litani by Hezbollah weaponry.

On Lebanese soil, General Soleimani oversaw strategy and logistics.

With the launch of Operation Al-Aqsa, the world saw for itself the powerful network of tunnels that both the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance used to disable enemy tanks and liquidate Israeli invaders.

Failing to assassinate him despite several attempts, imperialists dubbed him “the Shadow Commander.”

Counterbalance to imperial ambitions

General Soleimani’s leadership and skill would also be tested after the US launched the so-called “war on terror” in 2001. President George Bush outlined the objective of toppling of seven countries in five years – Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Iran.

Americans relied on its clients in the region, such as especially Israel, and the various non-state proxies the US was brewing, including the empowerment of Daesh in Iraq and Syria, in order to create the conditions for the toppling of governments in these countries.

General Soleimani understood that the proper counterweight to US domination was a doctrine of authentic resistance, a resistance forged in ideology but also independent of each other; thus, if one element was cut off, the others could continue to function.

With experience in equipping the Palestinian resistance as well as Lebanon’s Hezbollah, General Soleimani approached the shockwaves in the region with a clinical and smartly executed strategy.

The toppling of Saddam Hussein by the US caused a national catastrophe, with thousands of Iraqis murdered by US coalition forces. Americans used sectarianism as a vehicle to keep the Arab country weak and separated, allowing the festering elements of Al Qaeda and other Takfiri groups in Iraq to take advantage of the chaos. This resulted in the rise of Daesh (ISIS), which ravaged the country, spilling over into Syria – one of the aforementioned targets.

Through shadowy networks in Turkey, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, the US funneled weapons into the hands of Takfiri mercenaries pouring into Syria and Iraq from Western China all the way to the US itself.

“Operation Timber Sycamore” went as far as even training Takfiri militants who were executing women, children, and the elderly from Syria to Iraq.

The tide needed to turn. Iraq’s senior most cleric Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Sistani’s fatwa – the creation of the Popular Mobilization Forces of Iraq to expel the Daesh enemy – allowed General Soleimani to train soldiers in expelling the Takfiri threat from Iraq, which threatened whatever little stability the country had from years of American occupation.

Successful in driving out most of the Daesh elements from Iraq, General Soleimani also dedicated his time in Syria, struggling alongside the mostly-Sunni Syrian Arab Army to contain the so-called “Syrian Opposition” – a coalition of defected Syrian military commanders fighting alongside Daesh, Al Nusra Front, and other Takfiri groups.

In 2024, Syria eventually fell to Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) forces, who would sell the country to the whims of Washington and Tel Aviv. However, the time that General Soleimani bought was incalculable – US occupation forces controlled Syrian oil fields while Takfiri groups licked their wounds in Idlib, waiting for the opportune time to strike – when most resistance forces were occupied fighting Israel.

Perhaps if Syria fell within General Soleimani’s lifetime, the Al Aqsa Flood would not have happened, or would not have been as effective, as it has become clear that the HTS regime installed in Syria is anti-resistance: expelling members of the Palestinian resistance while preparing to confront Hezbollah on the Syria-Lebanon border.

This was the “Soleimani Doctrine” in action: identifying resistance to imperial ambitions and training them to stand their own ground. General Soleimani, through ideological coherence, refined the language and strategy of resistance.

Praying alongside soldiers, meeting with groups in person to discuss ideology with strategy, and, of course, fighting side-by-side on the battlefield with them, General Soleimani forged a new sense of solidarity within the logic of anti-imperialism in a region under imperialist pressure.

The Axis of Resistance had announced itself.

A living legacy

Today, General Soleimani lives within the hearts of those who love him and with the minds of those who fear him.

A worldwide symbol of what it takes to resist imperialist ambitions, you can find General Soleimani in the streets of Caracas, where his mural greets the Bolivarian revolutionaries training to confront the possibility of a US invasion. You can see him in banners decorating the holy cities of Karbala and Najaf.

Conversely, you can observe how imperialist mechanisms seek to remove his memory. Posting a photo of the “Shadow Commander”  on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook can earn you suspensions for “promoting terrorism.”

An interesting punishment for honoring someone responsible for destroying terrorists while imperialist powers fueled them in West Asia.

Every year, tens of thousands across the globe mark the anniversary of his martyrdom.

The strategic masterpiece of General Soleimani – the Axis of Resistance – continues to operate despite new challenges and calculations. It has created a bulwark of resistance in an otherwise imperialist-subordinated region.

The blow dealt to imperialism in the form of coordinated, ideologically aligned resistance – from Yemen thwarting the US Navy and Air Force – to the Palestinian resistance forcing the Israeli war machine into a military quagmire – proves that resistance is the only path forward towards sovereignty.

The ideology of resistance that General Soleimani instilled is not limited to the armed revolution. The calculus of resistance against imperial domination is for everyone to understand and wield.

From the organizer researching the ties of corporations to the Israeli occupation, to the scholar publishing a work exposing the intricacies of finance imperialism, to the student who refuses to stand by while their institutions provide material support to ethnic cleansing, and even the parent raising a child to be cognizant of the imperialist plans for their world – everyone has a role to play in strengthening the axis against imperialism, Zionism. And Takfirism.

As Martyr Abu Obeida would say, a leader is succeeded by 10, and a fighter by a thousand.

Explosions were reported at key military bases, civilian areas, and other sites across the Venezuelan capital of Caracas and surrounding areas in the early hours of Saturday, January 3. The Venezuelan government said in an official statement that the attack was perpetrated by the United States and constitutes a “grave military aggression” against “Venezuelan territory and population”.

In a post on his Truth Social platform after the attack, Trump said that the Venezuelan president had been removed from the country by the US, with more details to come in a press conference in Mar-a-Lago at 11 am.

“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country.”

Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez spoke to Telesur shortly after and confirmed that “Following this brutal situation and brutal attack, we are unaware of the whereabouts of the President Nicolás Maduro and that of the First Lady Cilia Flores.”

Rodríguez demanded that the Trump administration “provide immediate proof of the life of President Maduro and of the first lady.”

She addressed the Venezuelan people and informed that, “President Maduro was already very clear and had already warned the Venezuelan people that an attack of this type could take place because of the United States’ desperate greed for energy [resources] … He has given very clear instructions to the Bolivarian Armed Forces so that in perfect military, popular, and police unity, all plans to defend the homeland would be activated … We demand respect for international law. We condemn this brutal and savage aggression against our people that has cost the life of officials, members of the military, that become martyrs of our homeland, and that has cost the lives of innocent Venezuelan civilians.”

Rodríguez declared: “We will defend our homeland. No one can undermine the historic legacy of our liberator Simón Bolívar. The Venezuelan people in perfect national unity should be active to defend its natural resources, and should be active to defend the most sacred that a homeland can have, which is its right to independence, its right to the future, its right to have a free homeland without any of external tutelage and not becoming anyone’s colony. We will never again be slaves, We are sons and daughters of Bolívar. And we once again demand an immediate sign of life of Nicolás Maduro and a sign of life of the first lady, the first combatant, Cilia Flores.”

The airstrikes come after repeated threats by US President Donald Trump that his government would soon carry out “land strikes” against Venezuela. The first of which reportedly occurred on December 30, when Trump announced that the US had bombed a docking facility on the coast of Venezuela

An “attempt to impose a colonial war”

The government in Caracas has called the bombing campaign an imperialist attack by the United States and an attempt to “impose a colonial war”.

“The objective of this attack is none other than to seize Venezuela’s strategic resources,” reads the communiqué. “Particularly its oil and minerals, attempting to forcibly break the political independence of the Nation.”

According to sources in Venezuela, the targeted sites include, but are not limited to:

  • Tiuna Fort – major military complex in the southwest of Caracas
  • La Carlota Base – airbase/airport in Caracas
  • La Guaira Port and Naval Command – port facility and naval command located in La Guaira state
  • Higuerote Airport – airport in the coastal town of Higuerote, in the state of Miranda

María Corina Machado, the far-right Venezuelan opposition figure and Nobel Peace Prize recipient, told CBS News in mid-December she was fully supportive of Washington’s recent strategy against her country. When asked if she’d welcome US military action in Venezuela, the Nobel laureate did not rule it out.

“I will welcome more and more pressure so that Maduro understands that he has to go,” she said.

Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López reported in a statement two hours after the attacks that “missiles and explosives were launched from US helicopters and aircraft,” and that civilian areas were also hit in the attacks. As of now, the casualties are still being counted.

In response, the Venezuelan government has activated all of its national defense plans “to guarantee peace and sovereignty” and “to immediately transition to armed struggle”.

“Today, with the spirit of Bolívar, Miranda, and our liberators, the Venezuelan people rise once again to defend their independence in the face of imperial aggression.”

From boat strikes and piracy to open war

The US airstrikes are a massive escalation in its recent military campaign against the Bolivarian nation.

In December, the US began seizing Venezuelan oil tankers in the Caribbean Sea by force, as Trump bragged that they would “keep the oil”. The Maduro government called the seizures of oil “acts of piracy”. The White House, on the other hand, continued pursuing Venezuelan oil ships, claiming that the nationalization of Venezuelan oil in the 1970s amounted to “theft” from the United States.

This justification confirmed suspicions, both in Caracas and around the world, that the recent US aggression against the South American nation is driven by economic factors rather than national security concerns or drug trafficking.

Since September, 2025, the US military has carried out at least 35 boat strikes in the Caribbean and the Pacific against alleged drug traffickers which have claimed the lives of at least 115 Colombian, Trinidadian, and Venezuelan citizens. The unilateral strikes have been widely condemned as extrajudicial executions.

On December 16, 2025, when announcing the naval blockade on Venezuela, Trump declared that because of the “theft of our Assets, and many other reasons, including Terrorism, Drug Smuggling, and Human Trafficking, the Venezuelan Regime has been designated a FOREIGN TERRORIST ORGANIZATION.”

Although an FTO designation does not authorize military force or war, the Trump administration appears to have used it to attempt to build a legal case for escalation, while bypassing traditional constitutional and congressional checks on war powers.

International condemnation

The reported attacks have already been met with widespread international and domestic condemnation, with many citing that the attacks are a flagrant violation of the UN Charter as well as US law.

Cuba

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel declared that “Cuba denounces and demands an URGENT reaction from the international community against the criminal attack of the US against Venezuela.” The Cuban leader also emphasized that the attack is against the entire region, “Our Zone of Peace is being brutally attacked. State terrorism against the strong Venezuelan people and against Our America.”

Similarly, Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez stated that Cuba “strongly condemns the ongoing military aggression by the US against Venezuela. The bombings and acts of war against Caracas and other locations in the country are cowardly acts against a nation that has not attacked the US or any other country.”

Colombia

Colombian President Gustavo Petro shared a statement from his government expressing “deep concern” about the attacks and rejecting “any unilateral military action that can worsen the situation [in the region] or put the civilian population at risk”. “The Colombian Republic reiterates its conviction that peace, respect of international law, and the protection of life and human dignity should prevail over any form of armed confrontation,” the statement reads.

Petro also called on the United Nations and the Organization of American States (OAS) to meet as soon as possible.

Opposition has also been voiced by left parties across the world.

India

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) wrote in a statement, “We strongly condemn the United States’ military aggression and intimidation against Venezuela, which violates international law, the UN Charter, and the principle of national sovereignty. These actions reflect the US’s long-standing imperialist policy of intervention and coercion aimed at destabilising independent nations and controlling their resources. We stand in solidarity with the people and government of Venezuela.”

Türkiye

The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) Kemal Okuyan condemned the attacks against Venezuela in a statement and declared that “now is the time to stand in solidarity with the people of Venezuela.”

Palestine

Palestinian groups including the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad have also issued statements condemning the unilateral US attacks against Venezuela. The PFLP highlighted that continued US military escalation could ignite new global conflict zones and that the attacks constitute an attack on all nations that seek to chart their own independent paths.

Honduras

The LIBRE Party in Honduras, which is currently facing what they have termed a US-backed “electoral coup”, issued a statement through its coordinator Manuel Zelaya, strongly condemning the US aggression against Venezuela. “The imperialist can bomb cities, impose criminal sanctions, and unleash war, but they will never kill history, the dignity, nor the sovereign will of the people of Latin America and the Caribbean.”

Latin America and the Caribbean

ALBA Movements, a network of social movements in Latin America and the Caribbean, called the attacks a “criminal act of war”, “in direct violation of the Charter of the United Nations, which threatens peace, sovereignty, and stability throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. This aggression has a clear objective: the plundering of Venezuela’s strategic resources, especially oil and gold, through a colonial policy of military intervention and regime change.” The network also called on people across the world to speak out against the attacks and mobilize in front of US embassies and consulates.

Protests planned in the United States

Opposition within the United States continues to grow against the unilateral attacks against Venezuela. A Quinnipiac poll released in mid-December showed that 63% of people in the United States oppose military action inside Venezuela.

Meanwhile, anti-war groups in the United States have already called for a day of action on January 3, to oppose the US military escalation.

The ANSWER Coalition wrote in a statement announcing the actions in over a dozen cities in the US, “We need to take to the streets and say no to another endless war! The people of this country do not want another war! A US war would cause death and destruction for the people of Venezuela. The war machine consumes an unimaginable amount of our tax dollars while working families struggle to make ends meet. In an all-out war with Venezuela, it will be working class young people who are sent to kill and die, not the children of executives at ExxonMobil and LockheedMartin. The people need to take to the streets and say no to Trump’s war on Venezuela!”

US Senator from Arizona Ruben Gallego wrote on X, “This war is illegal, it’s embarrassing that we went from the world cop to the world bully in less than one year. There is no reason for us to be at war with Venezuela.”
