The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, presented a progress report on the Great Mission Venezuela Mujer and the Great Movement of Movements Josefa Joaquina Sánchez. He highlighted that 2,800,000 women are now active members of their organizational structures. The announcement was made during the inauguration of the Nora Castañeda International School of Women’s Leadership, located in Aragua State.

The President described the event as a “good omen” for the country’s social development in 2026 and announced a goal that, by the end of that year, all 49,000 community councils in the country will have a legally constituted women’s grassroots committee, which would allow a total of 5 million women to exercise direct leadership in their communities. Currently, 17,000 of these councils already have such committees.

The event featured the participation of National Assembly Deputy María León, who linked the fight for gender equality to the roots of Christianity and social justice. “This struggle began with Jesus of Nazareth; he was the one who spoke of justice and brought women into the fold,” León stated, symbolically proposing the inclusion of Jesus of Nazareth as a pivotal figure in the historical narrative of the Bolivarian Revolution, alongside Simón Bolívar, Hugo Chávez, and Nicolás Maduro.

For her part, the Minister of Popular Power for Women and Gender Equality, Yelitza Santaella, expressed her gratitude for the National Executive’s confidence in her to lead the new International Leadership School, and emphasized that its operation is based on the territorial organization of women through Women’s Committees and Communal Councils.

“Venezuelan women have demonstrated unwavering resilience in times of difficulty, assuming the leading role that history has bestowed upon them in the revolutionary process,” she noted.

The School, which will be headed by Santaella, has the mission of professionalizing and empowering women’s leadership through three training pillars defined by President Maduro: training for Social Transformation, for National Security and Defense, and for the Productive Economy.

The first pillar aims to equip women with the tools to make a positive impact within their families and communities. “Educating to transform society starting with the family, building humane and educated families based on values, families that know how to build a new society,” Maduro emphasized.

The second pillar will include a mandatory module inspired by the heroines Josefa Joaquina Sánchez and Ana María Campos, to strengthen the defense of national sovereignty through a popular-military-police alliance.

The third pillar focuses on women’s economic empowerment, with the goal of training “millions of entrepreneurial women who have their own successful productive and economic projects.”

Minister Santaella concluded her speech by stating that the new training center represents a milestone that transcends borders, because “the light of knowledge that is lit in Aragua will serve as a guide not only for Venezuelan women, but for all those women of the world who seek to walk the path of liberation and social justice.”

Colorado protest at new Palantir headquarters.

Denver, CO – On December 21, protesters gathered at the Cherry Creek Financial House in Denver for a noise rally to protest at the new headquarters of Palantir. The tech and AI surveillance company has plans to move into the new Cherry Creek location after months of community organizing have made their downtown headquarters untenable.

Palantir, whose technology is widely used by ICE to track immigrants and by Israel to facilitate genocide in Gaza, was invited to place its headquarters in Denver by Colorado Governor Jared Polis, after protests drove them out of California in 2020.

The crowd, armed with drums, pots and pans, trumpets and even a saxophone, followed the emcee in chants before hearing a speech from Denver Anti-War Action member Andrew Marquetalia, who said, “We’ve made it clear that Palantir is not welcome here in Denver. We’re out here making noise and we’ll be back again and again until Palantir cancels their planned move into this building.”

And make noise, they did. Streets away the drumming and chanting could be heard amid a busy shopping area just days before Christmas. Attendees and passersby were encouraged to sign a petition for the cancellation of Palantir’s lease and to demand Palantir out of Denver and out of Colorado.

In a speech, Terry Burnsed of the May Day Club said of Palantir, “They target all of these communities. Terror is both a commodity making profits, and an enforcer of the profit making regime. They target those who resist and those who don’t alike.”

Kacey Hicks with Freedom Road Socialist Organization highlighted U.S. attacks on Venezuela, explaining, “We need to continue to stand strong with the people of Venezuela. We need to stand firm in opposition to cowardly acts by Trump, like stealing an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela. The threat of Palantir using their AI technology on the people of Venezuela is real.”

In another speech, Brandan Gehrke with Aurora Unidos CSO told the crowd, “Palantir’s founders talk about defending freedom while building tools to destroy it. They claim to see the world clearly, but all they see is targets. We see a different world, a better world, a world where families are able to go to school without fear, a day where everyone has access to healthcare, and a day where the end of the genocide of Palestinians comes.”

Crowds circled the block with their chants and drums, demanding the attention of shoppers passing by with chants like “Palantir, can’t you see? Time to pack it up and leave!” and “Palantir, can’t you hear? Denver doesn’t want you here!”

While Brooke Shoemaker and a rights group representing her in court are celebrating this week after an Alabama judge threw out her conviction and ordered a new trial, her case is also drawing attention to the dangers of "fetal personhood" policies.

"Laws and judicial decisions that grant fetuses—and in some cases embryos and fertilized eggs—the same legal rights and status given to born people, such as the right to life, is 'fetal personhood,'" explains the website of the group, Pregnancy Justice. "When fetuses have rights, this fundamentally changes the legal rights and status of all pregnant people, opening the door to criminalization, surveillance, and obstetric violence."

Since the US Supreme Court's Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization ruling ended the federal right to abortion in 2022, far-right activists and politicians have ramped up their fight for fetal personhood policies. Pregnancy Justice found that in the two years after the decision, the number of people who faced criminal charges related to their pregnancies hit its highest level in US history.

Shoemaker's case began even earlier, in 2017, when she experienced a stillbirth at home about 24-26 weeks into her pregnancy. Paramedics brought her to a hospital, where she disclosed using methamphetamine while pregnant. Although a medical examiner could not determine whether the drug use caused the stillbirth—and, according to Pregnancy Justice, "her placenta showed clear signs of infection"—a jury found her guilty of chemical endangerment of a minor. She's served five years of her 18-year sentence.

"After becoming Ms. Shoemaker's counsel in 2024, Pregnancy Justice filed a petition alongside Andrew Stanley of the Samford Law Office requesting a hearing based on new evidence about the infection that led to the demise of Ms. Shoemaker's pregnancy, leading the judge to agree with Pregnancy Justice's medical witness and to vacate the conviction," the rights group said in a Monday statement.

Lee County Circuit Judge Jeffrey Tickal wrote in his December 22 order that "should the facts had been known, and brought before the jury, the results probably would have been different."

Shoemaker said Monday that "after years of fighting, I'm thankful that I'm finally being heard, and I pray that my next Christmas will be spent at home with my children and parents... I'm hopeful that my new trial will end with me being freed, because I simply lost my pregnancy at home because of an infection. I loved and wanted my baby, and I never deserved this."

Although Tickal's decision came three days before Christmas, the 45-year-old mother of four remained behind bars for the holiday last week, as the state appeals.

"While we are thrilled with the judge's decision, we are outraged that Ms. Shoemaker is still behind bars when she should have been home for Christmas," said former Pregnancy Justice senior staff attorney Emma Roth. "She was convicted based on feelings, not facts. Pregnancy Justice will continue to fight on appeal and prove that pregnancies end tragically for reasons far beyond a mother's control. Women like Ms. Shoemaker should be allowed to grieve their loss without fearing arrest."

AL.com reported Tuesday that "Alabama is unique in that it is one of only three states, along with Oklahoma and South Carolina, where the state Supreme Court allows the application of criminal laws meant to punish child abuse or child endangerment to be applied in the context of pregnancy."

However, similar cases aren't restricted to those states. Pregnancy Justice found that in the two years following Dobbs, "prosecutors initiated cases in 16 states: Alabama, California, Florida, Idaho, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. While prosecutions were brought in all of these states, to date, the majority of the reported cases occurred in Alabama (192) and Oklahoma (112)."

This is fantastic news!!I wrote in my book how the medical examiner ruled the cause of the stillbirth "undetermined," but the coroner (who lacks medical training) instead listed cause of stillbirth as mom's meth usage on the fetal death certificate.

"Prosecutors used a variety of criminal statutes to charge the defendants in these cases, often bringing more than one charge against an individual defendant," the group's report continues. "In total, the 412 defendants faced 441 charges for conduct related to pregnancy, pregnancy loss, or birth. The majority of charges (398/441) asserted some form of child abuse, neglect, or endangerment."

"As has been the case for decades, nearly all the cases alleged that the pregnant person used a substance during pregnancy," the report adds. "In 268 cases, substance use was the only allegation made against the pregnant person. In the midst of a wide-ranging crisis in maternal healthcare and despite maternal healthcare deserts across the country, prosecutors or police argued that pregnant people's failure to obtain prenatal care was evidence of a crime. This was the case in 29 of 412 cases."

When the publication was released last year, Pregnancy Justice president Lourdes A. Rivera said in a statement that "the Dobbs decision emboldened prosecutors to develop ever more aggressive strategies to prosecute pregnancy, leading to the most pregnancy-related criminal cases on record."

"This is directly tied to the radical legal doctrine of 'fetal personhood,' which grants full legal rights to an embryo or fetus, turning them into victims of crimes perpetrated by pregnant women," Rivera argued. "To turn the tide on criminalization, we need to separate healthcare from the criminal legal system and to change policy and practices to ensure that pregnant people can safely access the healthcare they need, without fear of criminalization. This report demonstrates that, in post-Dobbs America, being pregnant places people at increased risk, not only of dire health outcomes, but of arrest."

Political organizations from Latin America and the Caribbean issued a joint statement denouncing the “comprehensive regime of aggression” that the United States government maintains against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, which they describe as a modern form of blockade with direct human consequences.

The document, signed by 15 communist parties and movements from the region—including the Communist Party of Colombia, the Communist Party of Brazil, the Communist Party of Venezuela, and the Communist Party of Argentina—lists six central pillars of this unilateral policy: illegal coercive sanctions, economic and financial blockade, appropriation of Venezuelan assets abroad, military threats, political interference, and disinformation campaigns.

Iran Denounces “Psychological Warfare” Against Venezuela

Among the signatories are the Communist Party of Ecuador, the Communist Party of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, the Communist Party of Honduras, and the Mexican Communist Party, who in the text denounce the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the US, which have been “repeatedly condemned by United Nations bodies and rapporteurs” as constituting “collective punishment” and violating the UN Charter, the principle of non-intervention, and the right to self-determination of peoples.

Furthermore, the text emphasizes that these sanctions are not “targeted,” but rather function as a generalized blockade that affects access to food, medicine, medical supplies, and industrial spare parts, also hindering the international financial transactions of Venezuelan entities.

🚨Durante el encuentro, se emitió la siguiente declaración conjunta:

🔴¡No a la injerencia de Estados Unidos en América Latina y el Caribe!
Repudio a la intervención militar en Venezuela

The statement, which also includes the Communist Party of Peru, the Communist Party of Uruguay, the Morazanist Revolutionary Party (Honduras), the People’s Party of Panama, and the Guatemalan Labor Party, denounces the “seizure and plundering of Venezuelan people’s assets abroad,” including strategic companies such as CITGO and Monómeros, as well as the withholding of gold reserves at the Bank of England. These acts, the signatories maintain, constitute “modern piracy and theft of public assets.”

Regarding regional security, the text warns of the militarization of the Caribbean, highlighting the deployment of US naval forces, the execution of “joint operations,” and the prepositioning of “war reserves,” along with support for “mercenary cells and covert operations.” It also criticizes direct political interference, manifested in the “creation of parallel governments,” the financing of destabilization operations, and the use of lawfare to undermine Venezuelan institutions.

The declaration, which also includes the Popular Vanguard Party of Costa Rica, RASIN Kan Pèp La Haiti, CNCP Martinique, and the Caamañista Movement of the Dominican Republic, highlights the role of media warfare and disinformation campaigns, used, according to the signatories, to “justify aggression and undermine national cohesion” in Venezuela.

— Manuel Marrero Cruz (@MMarreroCruz) December 30, 2025

Given this situation, the signatories demand the immediate, total, and unconditional lifting of all unilateral coercive measures, the full return of seized assets, the cessation of the militarization of the Caribbean, and unrestricted respect for sovereignty and electoral processes in Venezuela. Furthermore, they reject the extraterritoriality of U.S. legislation, which affects third countries, banks, and companies in the region.

The call extends to the governments of Our America, urging them not to support foreign sanctions, to reestablish trade and financial relations with Venezuela in local currencies, and to promote mechanisms within regional bodies such as CELAC, ALBA, CARICOM, and UNASUR to protect countries from external aggression.

Likewise, unions, parliaments, peasant, feminist, youth, cultural, and academic organizations are invited to build a continental anti-blockade front through training campaigns, public statements, and coordinated actions. Popular media and the cultural community are called upon to “break the information blockade” and highlight the impact of the blockade and the theft of assets.

— ALBA (@ALBATCP) December 18, 2025

As concrete proposals, the signatories propose the creation of a Sovereign Humanitarian Cooperation Mechanism between states and public companies in the region to guarantee the supply of essential goods to Venezuela without conditions, as well as the reactivation of energy agreements such as Petrocaribe. They also propose establishing national legal observatories against extraterritoriality and lawfare, and supporting international legal actions undertaken by Venezuela in pursuit of reparations.

“The defense of Venezuela is not a matter for just one nation: it is the defense of the right of all our peoples to decide their own path without blockades or plunder,” they stated.
