I recently slapped linux on an old (10 years or so) chromebook and you're right. It's a....process to say the least.

what's it good for? not much. It flips around so you can use it as a tablet/touch screen but my god was that like almost a days worth of tinkering to get working correctly. if you flipped the screen over to make it a tablet the screen wouldn't rotate correctly. lots of adjustments just to get it to work. Also you have to keep in mind the storage you have available. mine has all of 16gigs.

So what's it good for? a glorified terminal station that can SSH into my server. I initially went with XFCE but after awhile I figured even THAT was overkill as all I was really using or could use was the terminal. So I slapped Cagebreak on it (honeslty could have just gone with Cage) and use it as a simple termnial station and a glorified jellyfin client via jftui.

Was it worth it? no, but it was more of a hobby project and nothing that I would ever consider as a daily driver at all. It's just an old POS chrome book I can use while laying in bed to watch a movie or tv show from my server and mess around in the terminal.

I haven't really seen it on my various instances but I believe their marketing have been pushing it elsewhere like twitter for example. I mean the demographic that Zorin would appeal to isn't likely to be in the fediverse. they'll be on platforms like twitter, bluesky, reddit, etc. These are Windows users that may not be the most tech savvy but don't want to continue using Windows for various reasons.

I'm not a fan of Zorin, I don't like the fact that one of their features for the paid version is a bunch of KDE Plasma themes you can download for free from the KDE store but for someone migrating from Windows I get it. I believe the access to one on one tech support is worth the price of admission alone for these users.

for assistance with contributions? fine, let the babies have their bottles.

But to also utilize LLM's for the review process of said contributions? yeah good luck with that Fedora.

Don't get me wrong I like fedora, it's a good "noob" linux distro but some of the decisions these dudes make just make me scratch my head. Look at some of the spins for example, especially the Sway spin and you can't help but think "why would they do that?"

still use ZSNES to this day, hell it's the only SNES emulator I've used for some 20+ years. nothing can top it. works on everything. the netplay was amazing. playing fighting games with friends from IRC and ICQ was peak.

From a lore point of view, they're not that bad and it all makes sense when you consider what the Wachowskis were TRYING to do. All the sequels and all the media associated with the sequels were ambitious to say the least. Reloaded, 4 shorts from the Animatrix, Enter The Matrix (the game), and a collection of comics all tie together the overall lore. it's a lot. Basically back in the day if you wanted the COMPLETE story for Reloaded you had to watch like 2 shorts from the Animatrix and play Enter The Matrix. The issue is for the third film, while it was filmed at the same time as Reloaded, doesn't really expand on some of the stuff revealed in the other media that tied into Reloaded.

The third film simply felt like was something that was forced on the Wachowskis by Warner Bros. Like I imagine very little was cut from both films because they really couldn't cut anything and it was clearly evident they NEEDED to cut stuff.

All that being said The Matrix Online continues the story and expands the lore, which was canon, and it actually got quite a bit better.

Revenge of the Sith? I mean that kinda fits. Bad Guy convinces Good Guy to join him to build an Empire.

The layoffs also hit Twitch which has had a notorious bot problem for years. So now they're going to use bots to fight bots?

Honestly the best thing Amazon could do is just shut down twitch completely. It's become a dumpster fire of its former self. It used to be about people playing games and now it's about which streamer is sexually assaulting which other streamer and dudes putting shock collars on dogs.

basically Carney took a look south and said "you know what? some of these ideas...they're not too bad"

Meanwhile PP is flipping his lid saying "fucker stole my ideas!"
