Bethesda's versions were a bit more tame than 2, but still off the wall. There exists some purists who only like fallout 1 for that reason. My favorite is fallout 2. I think fallout 1 was still trying to be wasteland, but after that the series became a parody. That doesn't mean parody doesn't make commentary, of course, because it does.
