Lemmy doesn't do microblogging.
That's such a strange way to use banana republic. Banana republics were created after the US instituted coups due to the threat of land reform (nationalization of US company owned plantation land). Denying the right to nationalize things is what creates banana republics. (Not that I think anyone should do something so stupid as try to nationalize satellites they have no access to.)
Even if he wasn't a fragile narcissist, having one point of failure would be bad.
We call that redlining in the US and it's often tied up with race over here, which can quickly get a credit company into lawsuits https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redlining
Two services that are very interoperable (because kbin is designed to be, specifically able to bring in microblogging content while lemmy can't) and still have problems. Did you know boosts are what make comments appear higher on kbin while favorites work that way on Lemmy? That's the sort of thing I'm taking about. Every implimentation of activitypub kind of makes its own rules on what tokens mean and if you want to be compatible, you have to change your service as they change theirs (which is what happened, lemmy changed and kbin hasn't gotten around to it yet since it's not a big priority).
