I've never seen this appear. Is this in chrome? Anyway, like some people here have suggested, you can use a debloater script or something similar. I personally use O&O Shutup10. Hopefully enabling some options in there would work. Or you could just accept it and then change your search engine back to whatever you use lol.
Personally, I feel the same way you do about DRM. If you've paid to own it, then it should be owned outright. With this in mind, I would say pirating them wouldn't lose you any moral ground.

It lacks some of the functions found in plex, most notably the sync feature. That being said, it's still a very good free alternative to plex. It does run on android tv
I had a similar issue once and the problem was low storage space. Maybe you could try deleting some stuff?
