I'm saying going beyond the technical part, not ignoring it.

Could you please save the snarky comments and let go of your prejudices until after you've seen how it works?

If you checked how the matching algorithm works, which I straight up lifted from OkCupid you'd see that clueless employers would end up penalized and you'll be a lot less likely to see them.

This is 100% on Mastodon to fix.

This has nothing to do with branding or simple preferences. It's about ethics. Some people are here not because they think it is the best alternative, but because it has the potential to be good.

cinema instance admins have 100% control over your Lemmy experience.

But unlike really centralized platforms, the admins of topic-specific instances have no way to abuse their power. Specially if the topic instance is not the home to users, it's quite easy for dissenters to go and set a new home elsewhere.

IMHO, content discovery is still the main problem and something needs to be centralized to solve it.

There is also https://soccer.forum, an instance exclusively for football communities. Would you be interested in having this community there?

As I started to work with Lemmy and understand how it is implements the distribution of content through the federation, I became in favor of having separate instances for topics and people. This would help reduce a lot of the political conflicts and avoid issues of people in one instance getting detached from larger communities because some.people in instance X don't like some people from in instance Y.

Also, I wouldn't want to have my "main" identity defined by or attached to any of my interests.

Lastly, I am sure that the people behind fanatics.social have good intentions, but the instance is still on 0.18.4 and it doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

switch over by mentioning Lemmy in the right threads, making sure to explain features of Lemmy in terms of Reddit analogs to avoid the usual complaints of Lemmy being difficult to understand.

I feel like we are very close to this inflection point where all the pieces are in place to make mass migration completely transparent. What is missing:

  • Integrate the "Login with Reddit" functionality that I implemented for Fediverser (and available on alien.top) directly into Voyager.
  • Get more instances to connect to fediverser.network, so that we can onboard redditors into other instances besides alien.top
  • Promote Voyager on /r/apolloapp.

I hesitated a bit before setting them up, but to be honest I couldn't find any other term to express the idea of "something made to provide a visually appealing simulacrum of a topic without requiring any actual interest/ability in doing the real thing".

The whole sfw.community instance is aimed at "SFW Porn" communities. It's less about "serious" discussion and more for sharing pictures/videos with little depth.

Because this means creating yet another account at a service who is probably not ready to bear the costs of becoming a video hosting provider?

Not yet, but I think the more people subscribe to it the easier it will be to make the case for it

@publiclewdness@gameliberty.club asked @PINE64@fosstodon.org if they were planning to have a presence on Lemmy, so that gave me the idea of adding it.
