It's a very non traditional story structure (at least to a western reader) but The Three Body Problem series has a lot of plot revolving around the lack of inhabitable worlds.
And the shocking percentage of innocent people who are forced into bad plea deals or railroaded by the system? Do we throw away the key for them too?
Until the Dems block a supreme court vote and steal a justice, significantly altering the course of American history and jurisprudence, you don't get to both sides this particular issue.
Both are excellent series.
But the expanse is longer (especially if you're only considering the first 2 Hyperion books, as some people do), so my suggestion is start the expanse and read Hyperion in between books when you need a break.
