Yeah I know. Coming from military parents, I'm trying to not judge people too much since i know theres amazing people who serve, but I agree there's strong maga bro energy in the military and it sucks.

Yeah. I've been looking in analytics and it's awful. Any remote job on linked in gets over 200 applications ("people who clicked 'Apply'") in the first day. If you see a posting more than a day out it's very likely to have more than 1000 applications (I've seen as much as 4500).

I emailed a recruiter about a posting recently when the job page on the company site was throwing an error. I told her about the error and asked if the job was real/still available. She said she'd gotten over 500 applications within a few hours of listing it and shut down the posting because she was overwhelmed. I think that's the norm now.

I'm on the market now and I can confirm the job market is indeed fucked. Especially for anyone location restricted or wanting remote work.

Plus, it's not like you can just join the military and quit when you don't like how things are going. Unless things have changed radically, when you enlist you're signing up for 3,6 or even 8 years of service with very little recourse for getting out (without messing up your career and maybe even your life).

I'm sure for a lot of people working in the military is just a job. It's a luxury to choose jobs based on personal politics and a lot of people can't afford that now.

This is where i see additional problems. Govt or no, Aetna should have been way more diligent in addressing any requests for info, and in providing more than what was explicitly requested they are also committing a HIPAA violation. Any counsel for Aetna should have been well aware of the risk of sending health records out and been very, very specific on what was to be sent and not to avoid a compliance issue.

If i was on Mangione's legal team I'd be preparing a civil case and HIPAA violation claim against Aetna in addition to seeking removal of the prosecutors involved. (I'm not a lawyer but worked in health insurance for several years managing patient data.)

The article says that redacted names are alleged victims who were flown on the jet.

I remember a time when if I wanted to know what my friends were up to I would call their home without even knowing if they were there to pick up. Location sharing is unnecessary at least 95% of the time and I don't get the appeal.

I know this makes me sound old but I don't care.

Yeah, this seems like a prime target for Anonymous. Would be interesting to see big news outlets struggling between chasing a huge story and not wanting to cover something that outs their bosses (since there's probably lots of them on there too).

It's The Lottery for 2025.

Probably would go over about as well with people as it did in the story.

Similar in Panamá. My husband and I visited recently and was told by out tour guide that was the way. Not nearly as bad as India - folks were pretty good about stopping at a good distance away - but it was still pretty terrifying, especially in Panamá City.

St Louisian here and I am not at all surprised to see my city in this list. I've lived all over the country and driven in most of our biggest metros but StL is by far one of the craziest places to drive that I've ever seen. People drive like assholes in a lot of big cities (looking at you DC metro) buy they are at least somewhat predictable and respectful of basic laws. Here it is literally the wild west.

They will run stoplights and signs regularly, just about every time I'm in the car I see it at least once. And it's not just squeaking by right after it changes, it's egregious-as in traffic has started in the opposite direction and some jackass comes flying through the intersection like they don't even see the light. But its worse than that- I've seen people go the wrong way on one-way streets, drive in the opposite lane of traffic to pass, turn left across multiple lanes of moving traffic from the far right lane and using closed off construction areas as shortcuts. Pedestrians and cyclists have been hit several times in my neighborhood by drivers who were ignoring basic driving laws. It's not just randos either- city vehicles, school busses, and cabs do this crap. They aren't just asshole drivers- they are reckless and entitled and unpredictable.

What makes the problem worse is that a huge number of people just don't get their cars registered at all, and drive without tags or with years old temp tags with no repercussions. This also means they are uninsured, so it's on the insured folks to cover any accident damage.

My insurance rates jumped about 30% when I moved here and I didn't understand why at first but I do now. I love St Louis but I hate driving here.

Oh lol cool TIL thanks

Anthropic behaving badly? Shocking!

Was out at a vet appointment when the tornando came through clayton and st louis. Had to backtrack 4 or 5 times to find a street not blocked with downed trees. Started on Skinker and had to drive all the way to Brentwood blvd to get south of 64. Took us 2 hours to get from skinker & Lindell to tower grove

I live in the Tower Grove area and need to find a mobile vet. My dog gets incredibly stressed every time we take him to our normal (but fantastic) vet so we want to try getting him checked at home.

Every place I've called tells me they only operate in st Charles or st Peter's (despite saying all over their website that they serve st louis) or say they don't have mobile vet services at all. Since I can't trust these places' own sites I'm kind of at a loss for where to look.

Are there any places you use/know of that you recommend?

Just stumbled upon this 17-min film by David Lynch on Netflix and I think it's the closest I'll ever be to tripping on acid.

I feel like there's some kind of punchline or meaning that I'm missing, but maybe it's just absurdits for its own sake.

Thoughts on this film?

Hi all! Can you help me diagnose my basil plant?

I just got one of those "grow your own" herb plants from the grocery so my expectations were pretty low, and it's already done way better than expected.

I originally thought it was pollen from it flowering but I only had the one flower left after trimming and this stuff is everywhere. I've always grown basil outside and this time thought I'd try putting it in a window box (with cilantro and rosemary in case that matters) but I've not seen this before.

Is this something to worry about? If so what's a good way to treat it?

ADP is showing this on all hr applications now- I've encountered it a few times and always hesitate before choosing. I don't want my resume to go even further down the vortex and feed an AI model but maybe opting out just eliminates you altogether from consideration.

Have you seen this before? How have you handled it?

Should be titled: Jaguar takes the wrong lesson from Tesla's Cybertruck.

I know it's a bit different from the typical movie review/analysis but thought this was an interesting take on a great Thanksgiving day classic.

I know this is basically the same as burning money, but I found this funny and I've got $7.99 burning a hole in my pocket...

I'm doing a month-long series of campy, classic and unique horror movies. I'm pretty liberal in what gets included, trying for a lot of variety. I'm particularly a fan of spooky comedies (like the Burbs), and generally avoiding big franchise horror series to see more unique stuff.

I'm enjoying seeing so many movies I would never come across any other way, even if many of them aren't all that great. So far my favorite is probably Cabin in the Woods or Happy Death Day.

Anything I should add to the list?

Watched (in order)
