Well there's a couple interesting answers here already. Time to save this post so I can "come back to it" (aka forget...)

I would have made the same mistake if they didn't hit me with "VPN voting not allowed". Not a very good first impression from this website...

I have a 500m walk to my nearest station in a residential area, and my list of places looks very similar:

• 2 hairdressers and a barber
• 3 regular restaurants and 2 fast-food places (both Döner lol)
• 2 bakeries
• a small supermarket
• a drug store
• a pharmacy
• a bank branch
• a flower shop
• a book store
• a few other shops I've never really paid attention to and genuinely couldn't tell you what they sell

All of that is there because about half of the apartment buildings have a shop on the ground floor. It's great, and I don't even live in a fancy part of the city.

Is there additional context to be aware of? Or is this just about the passage of time

In Kanada wiederum z.B sind Kosten für Wohnraum (und allgemeiner Lebenserhaltung) zurzeit ein riesiges Problem. Nicht an und für sich antidemokratisch, aber je mehr Leute unter den Folgen des Hyperkapitalismus leiden, desto einfacher breitet sich sowas in der Zukunft aus.. von daher würde ich das auch nicht unbedingt als "sichere" Option sehen. (Ganz davon abgesehen, dass das ja auch das Auswandern an sich erschweren würde)

Zu den anderen weiß ich nicht genug über die Innenpolitik, wobei Tschechien natürlich über die EU von Entwicklungen in Deutschland ebenfalls betroffen wäre. Schau ich mir aber mal an, ich würde mich ja freuen ein Land mit klarem Aufwärtstrend zu finden.

Aber auswandern wohin..? Mir scheint so als wenn es kaum ein Land gibt welches gerade nicht auf einem antidemokratischen Kurs unterwegs ist. :/

Intelligence also doesn't necessarily translate to actual success. I've been through numerous assessments as a child that confirmed I am comfortably in the "green zone" (if measured by IQ, that is), but I also have pretty severe ADHD so I can only really make use of my brain for short periods of time.

I can get a week's worth of work done in a day, but only once a week, and I spend the rest of the week wondering where I'd be if only I could work like that every day. I was also a decent student in school/uni but never near the top of the class, because I couldn't bring myself to study for anything more than a few days before the exam.

Also, deskriptiv habe ich auch auf Deutsch schon gehört, aber nur im akademischen Kontext. Eskapismus konnte ich aus dem englischen escapism ableiten, mir war aber nicht bewusst, dass es das auch als deutsches Wort gibt.

Es gibt Leute, die gerne mal das Wörterbuch rausholen nur um intelligenter zu wirken. Davon halte ich nichts – ein wirklich intelligenter Mensch kann seine Ideen zielgruppengerecht formulieren. Trotzdem ist es nicht verkehrt, seinen eigenen Wortschatz immer wieder zu erweitern, mindestens weil es das Gehirn und das Sprachverständnis auf Trab hält. Von daher: jedes neue Wort ist etwas dazugelernt, aber es ist keine Schande, es noch nicht zu kennen :)

Offensichtliche Frage, aber– ist es irgendwie möglich, dass das Gerät oder der Browser, auf dem du das Passwort gesetzt hast, kompromittiert sind?

Ah, I see. I agree that wording doesn't sound like you can do name change only. I remember reading that you can choose your own name but I suppose that must've been only in combination with a gender entry change then.

Hopefully there will be official confirmation at some point on what is possible. I have no need to change either name or gender for myself, but I'm happy that those who do will have a much easier time than before.

I'm ~~pretty sure~~ no longer sure you can change your name and/or gender independently with this new law. Only limit is 1 change per year.

Where did I say it takes years? I literally said earlier in my response to your very first comment that I think 2 days vs a week can make a big difference in understanding.
