I think if the choice is to not have modern chips, they will go to war. Chips are too strategic these days in too many domains including military.

Gotta have those chips!

I would think that would lessen the need for Taiwan's advanced fabs, but I guess it depends on if you think they are taking Taiwan to have the fabs or to deny the fabs to everyone else.

Japanese diplomats told company risk officers that “you are on your own if you put significant assets in Taiwan”, said one person present at one of the conversations.

Foreign direct investment by Japanese companies — traditionally Taiwan’s third-largest source of FDI, after the EU and US — slumped 27 per cent last year to $452mn, and is down from a peak of $1.7bn in 2022.

This should be up to the sound man anyway. I'd assume this gig was big enough where stage volume meant almost nothing compared to that of the PA, in ear monitors, or stage monitors.

I read this as Winamps guards

Yeah there are a lot of good reasons to want smaller outer dimensions, but a couple mm slimmer with worse battery life? I struggle to see who this would be a good trade off for.

[–] realitista@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

That's certainly what I'd prefer.

Hey! He said he wasn't a cableologist, alright?!

Thanks to @barneypiccolo@lemm.ee for the following summary and turning me on to the linked excellent summary of the book.

Foundations of Geopolitics was published in 1997 by Aleksandr Dugin. It outlines how Russia can become the world's dominant superpower without warfare. It is taught in Russia's military officers school, Putin keeps a copy in his office, and it is Russia's geopolitical playbook. Dugin is still closely involved with Putin and Russian intelligence, and so was his daughter, who was murdered in a car bombing that was likely meant for him.

Under the section for the United States, it says:

Russia should use its special services within the borders of the United States and Canada to fuel instability and separatism against neoliberal globalist Western hegemony, such as, for instance, provoke "Afro-American racists" to create severe backlash against the rotten political state of affairs in the current present-day system of the United States and Canada. Russia should "introduce geopolitical disorder into internal American activity, encouraging all kinds of separatism and ethnic, social, and racial conflicts, actively supporting all dissident movements – extremist, racist, and sectarian groups, thus destabilizing internal political processes in the U.S. It would also make sense simultaneously to support isolationist tendencies in American politics".

I'm wondering if I should go for a replacement or what.

I can't get the Switch 2 to wake even if I hold the controllers 1cm away and hit the home screen. I know it's not supposed to work from the old pro controllers any more, but not even from the included joycons? And since it doesn't recognize my TV's HDMI-CEC either, the only way to wake this damn thing while it's docked is to walk over and turn it on. And to make matters worse, the range of the controllers is a lot worse and they keep disconnecting. I didn't have these problems with the Switch 1.

Is it just me?

Finally some new Battlebots!
