Not a machinist but I have to pipe up saying that this is a pretty cool look at the process. Good luck!

I am more or less neutral on most recycling. Separating metals is a good idea, glass pretty neutral (it's basically a rock and expensive to crush and recycle - much better to reuse). Separating plastics is probably worse than useless.

Separating organics, however, has immediate benefits. It's so nice having trash that doesn't stink to high heaven, and it almost eliminates the raccoon and rat problem. Municipal compost is one of the best public investments imo. Yes, it can be gross, but it concentrates the gross and makes it much simpler to deal with.

I was reading the other day that Gen X technically got the highest lifetime lead exposure. Boomers didn't grow up with it.

Make bigger coins. Toonies are still useful.

Unless they are struggling with their weight and self control, and have worked very hard to remove temptations from their workspace. :(

I don't think it's dumb to tell people that power buttons often just put computers to sleep now. It's a relatively new behaviour. Until about 5 or 10 years ago power meant power off, not low power.

I know it's autocorrect but I got a giggle out of 'marital arts'

Thought it was Loss, turns out to be Nazis. Great.

You can pick up a recorder for 20 dollars and they will withstand abuse. Not so a guitar. I agree that it's better musically and maybe pedagogically but it's got some deal breakers.

Couple of my favourites:

Any other good watches? I love this game for background atmosphere.

Cooking a moose and working on "Skilled Survivor", really enjoyed this screenshot from a cave in Bleak Inlet.

Also, I've found that if you really need a very fuel-efficient cooking method, having multiple fires going lets you use one stick for like 25 minutes of runtime, since stuff still cooks during "Embers" and pauses for a while afterwards. A pile of sticks can cook a ridiculous amount of meat by doing continuous relights among a bunch of fires. It's a lot of work, but if you're short fuel, it might be worth it.

Saw this while mapping in HRV. Very pretty.

TLD-adjacent. Maybe moose and bears should fight each other!

There's that one spot in PV in the birch forest where they both spawn. That should be a bit of a bloodbath. Also, maybe free meat?

Here's a perennial favourite: what features would you like added to the Long Dark, or what features would you like to see simplified or removed entirely?

(This is a decathread because we are too small to have megathreads yet)

(This might end up being my own personal gripe thread, so buckle up)

From a Youtube comment:

"Sadly the creator of this mash-up has passed away. His name was Erwin Beekveld and he died on 30th of march 2022 aged 52. Thank you for all the joy you gave us, Erwin. Rest In Peace"

Pour one out for an OG memelord.

Friday bread (infosec.pub)

Pepper-pepper-pepper asiago sourdough bread. 4% toasted and ground peppercorns, 20% asiago cheese, 1% garlic powder, generous pinch of Japanese shichimi (7spice) and red pepper flakes. Probably 85% hydration.

Mah starter (infosec.pub)

This is my unnamed sourdough starter blorping away on the counter in its charming green mason jar. About to go back into the fridge for two weeks.

Got kicked out of the building at work today due to this. Crazy.

Almost feels like I should tag this one NSFW.

Someone cut through all the cables on the Library microfiche station this weekend. Some people. :(

Introduce yourself, if you feel comfortable doing so. This will probably be a small group for the foreseeable future, so we might as well get to know one other.
