So yes I got synapse installed and I use element as a client but when I tried to register an account it wants to send me an email from my own server and since port 25 is blocked.
Where did you host your Matrix server? I was using Hetzner but they block port 25 for email.
Holy shit you right. Its convenience I guess for newbies. But yeah thats really bad for privacy.
Its convenience , people will hand out any data for the sake of convenience. Just look at how many people in the US buy iPhones.

I have mine installed on my Hetzner VPS and it blocks SSH autoscans and brute force attacks. It also has some list of IPs used for nefarious purposes. But remember security is not a one thing solution. If you are hosting something so crucial as a Vaultwarden , be mindful that you should protect all those accounts with two factor authentication in case of a breach. Also don't put all your eggs in one basket. Be safe
