As someone who has gotten many, many, many rude comments from hexbears, I felt the need to share my experience. (Some of the comments from hexbears were polite though.) These comments had me brooding over them all day long for a couple of days. (I have since then moved on.) I listed the links to the rude comments below, but I think I should make it clear that while I used to support the idea of defederating from them, I have changed my stance since I heard about the upcoming changes to Lemmy allowing users to block instances. I am no longer in favor of defederating from hexbear.net. People should be able to decide this for themselves, but it is too much effort to switch instances to decide which instances you don't want to see.

Please do also note that I chose to leave out the polite comments in the list below. If you don't want to click on every link, just check out the first one and the last one.

There are so many people who believe that the ideology suppressed by the government is always bad. While this is sometimes the case, this is definitely not the case for authoritarianism. (Edit: what I meant was that the ideology suppressed by the government is authoritarianism, which many hexbears seem to support)

Edit 2: Before this is inevitably pointed out, I should admit that some of my comments were rude as well. I apologize for those comments.

You had it explained where they came from, and just ignored it so you could continue with your paranoid conspiracy theory.

I never had a "paranoid conspiracy theory" to begin with.

I don't even have a theory.

That's because your instance does not allow you to. If downvotes were enabled on hexbear.net, I bet I'd already have been downvoted into oblivion.

They have defederated from neither lemmygrad.ml nor hexbear.net.

100% agree that they are trolls. They flood any China news posts (that's not on lemmy.world) with a truckload of pro-China comments, taking advantage of the fact that a sizeable portion of Lemmy users won't be able to see and downvote them. Whenever someone replies to them with well-thought-out arguments supporting "the western authoritarians," half of them replies with huge and ugly emojis, while the other half parrots more Chinese propaganda (that actually sound well-written if you disregard the fact that China is an oppressive regime).

Don't you all love democracy?

This sentence implies that you don't. Why don't you like democracy?

100% agree! I always get so frustrated when there are no screenshots in the README.md or on the site.

Yeah, I can tell this just from skimming their FAQ and Usage Guides. When they talk about the applications they offer, they always sell it as the most secure thing ever. I still personally care more about privacy than security though.

Yes it was the GrapheneOS team who said that. See the paragraph just above Camera. I literally just skimmed their guides and saw this yesterday while considering getting a Pixel.

Ok, guess I'm from China now. That makes me an expert on China, doesn't it?
