Archive everything. A torrent isn’t perfect but it is far more resilient than a shitty site like rapidgator or mega. If all the seeds drop off they may hop back on someday, if the link is dmcad or otherwise deleted it’s gone forever.

Fuck their e-cred. It’s all stolen. The only time you don’t spread something around is when someone posts something special to a private community to only be shared within that community because leaking it outside of that community could cause them grief or even serious consequences (eg someone leaking content to a private tracker community that they fear could be traced back to them so they specifically ask to keep it within x community). Though tbh I’ve seen this happen at least 4-5x over the years and it always leaks out to the wider internet, people will always share (as they should)

Lots, chrono trigger, ffvi-x, Mario 64, basically every yakuza game, sekiro, breath of the wild, a ton more. Embarassing ones sometimes like that power washing game because I got it for free and was like “this will be dumb” then kept going and going and going

Some older games that I’d probably power through now but at the time cheating/save states/youtube wasn’t easily accessible (gamefaqs existed but text based walkthroughs hit much different). Like the ps1 survival horror games: resident evil 1-3, silent hill, Dino crisis, parasite eve, etc. when you know what to do most of those can be run through in a few hours but in 1997 on the original hardware (no save states) and at best a txt file faq to guide you if you get stuck it would take some time to figure it out. Then with ones like re2 that had multiple routes and endings you’d play it like 6-7 times at least

It’s not ethical but if this is the case I would absolutely sell it to a bad actor. I know it’s terrible to do this but I also have bills to pay and apple is worth like 3 trillion dollars. Ridiculous

Pointless regardless of how you feel, am I wrong? Like wouldn’t other instances that have federated with this instance lead to comments from here

Private votes are a mixed bag. On one hand they can be abused and lead to brigading and making them public defuses this easily. On the other hand sensitive topics obviously are something one may not want to leave a receipt over. Dunno

Of course youtube is going to embrace this. It is a front to deanonymize users under the thin veneered legitimization of “protecting children”. This gives them more control to profile users far more heavily, force them away from adblockers and modified clients, and entice them into premium subscriptions

If it was up to Google you would have an official Google account linked to your government issued identification, that you accessed only via chrome and official youtube clients. Invidious, revanced, ytplus, etc would be illegal, manifest v2 would be done, and they would force through the webdrm thing they demoed a while back.

They know people won’t embrace this so they’ll only do it through small movements toward it whenever possible however possible. They attempted the webdrm stuff and got too much pushback so that was put on the back burner. They have a smokescreen to de anonymize users right now thanks to fascism and homophobic evangelists/radfems deciding they need to police the internet for everyone so they will use it to further their bad faith agenda

Everyone loses. The radfems and evangelicals think they win and they do, temporarily, but not really because VPNs exist and eventually they will recognize that handing over this power to tech giants has created a situation that will blow up in their stupid fucking faces. Well, Google, meta, and apple and such win bc they’ll make fucking bank

Have you not seen how advertising destroys everything it touches and co-opts every space, continually intruding further and further to become more “effective”

I know you have because you are here on the internet. Depending on your age you have likely seen the decline of sites like reddit, youtube, google, etc. if your older you’ve probably seen newspapers get destroyed in a similar fashion, television, etc. outdoor advertising (billboards, in stores, signage, etc) has only become more obtrusive, offensive, and ever present through the decades as well

Admen find a space where people are, shove themselves into it, take that space over, then demand control of that space to enforce that their ads are “respected”. With the modern internet they shamelessly steal tons of data about you so their ad spends can be more “effective” because again, they have no ethics whatsoever. They don’t care if that complete violates your privacy and they don’t care if that data continually gets breached when it’s handed through 80 brokers. “Well, I wasn’t the one that did it! Doesn’t matter that I perpetuate a system that’s totally fucked” Except for cases like Google and meta of course where they absolutely were the ones who were. But again, no ethics whatsoever

Fuck advertisers. Advertisers are the bane of existence. They dont believe in their products, they just believe in soulless consumerism. They fight unfair; if you create systems to evade their bullshit they use their power to destroy those systems (going back to things like tivo). They are the devil, the antichrist. Kill all admen and make the world a better place. If you work in advertising take a long hard look at your life and figure out where it all went wrong, and then go work a more respectable job like being the person who changes urinal ice in strip clubs.

Your more complicated version is untenable for many reasons, the least of which being that I would bet $10 that microcontroller is write protected even not knowing what chip it is (hc11?)

You could drive the display but something on that board blew up. Hard to tell from the pictures but it appears the area around the connector labeled nfs and the black box labeled fcvm 4907 (relay?)

If you simply feed voltage into it it will likely not work. You can get the screen to turn on this way but it won’t function as a clock, something has to send it the logic (that chip). This may still work but you’d have to power the full board and not just the LEDs and the chances are much higher that that burned section has more dead parts surrounding it preventing operation

You can trace to see what’s dead, then try to figure out what killed it, then try to fix it and power the board externally. If that is a relay and the oven was old (or even if it wasn’t and just had shit soldering) the fix could be relatively simple. Relay failure isn’t uncommon on whirlpool boards and cold solder joints are super common on modern appliances. Cold solder joint switching 10-15A at 120-240V will crack/weaken and eventually arc. If you’re lucky it just killed the relay and the fix is easy, just clean the board, swap the relay, fix any cold joints that remain (though it’s less important now that it’s not doing its actual job) and hope that it didn’t destroy a bunch of other stuff when it died

You could also just pull the screen and use it with an arduino or something. You’d have to reverse engineer the pinout but with a screen like that it should be stupid easy to do and that’s actually a pretty good slightly advanced beginner arduino project tbh. Then you could make a custom clock, animate it how you want, etc

He’s a prolific example and while the veracity of his diagnosis can be debated (I don’t think it’s a stretch but I also agree it’s not a given) it’s not hard to come across people with autism who are racist, fascist, homophobic, etc. especially young people.

I’ve done autism focused counseling for well over a decade. I’ve talked to a bunch of people with autism who were super into ww2 and Hitler (like in a they thought he was super cool way), who got swept up into tea party and maga rhetoric, etc. some don’t give a shit about politics but are still really vindictive and their tendency to ruminate and obsess about things leads to shit like doxxing people who they fight with online or form parasocial relationships around. Some of the more capable people I’ve worked with have deeply internalized ableism and resentment towards anyone who needs accommodations because they’ve managed to power through high school and college and now they have a high paying tech job (though often their career is stalled because while their output is stellar they are considered socially awkward so moving to supervisory roles that would earn them more significant pay are locked away, adding an extra dimension to the resentment)

Toxic behavior is human, it’s up to us to reflect on what parts of us are shitty and try to improve. This is true regardless of neurodiversity status

It doesn’t automatically, agreed, it can absolutely make you a bitter vindictive asshole. But it can also make you an empathic person who understands how hard it can be. The absence of it is far more likely to make you an out of touch moron though

“It’s a banana, what could it cost, $10?” kind of thing. “If you need an accommodation just have your dad call the ceo”

This could easily be a monkeys paw situation. Perhaps the thing that makes the nd people you interact with kind and understanding is having experienced oppression

Elon musk has autism, for example, and he is a notable piece of shit

[–] ragebutt@lemmy.dbzer0.com 235 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (12 children)

This is 100% true

Admen for companies like Monsanto in the 1950s pushed the idea of the “green lawn” and rebranded clover as a weed to push herbicides and nitrogen fertilizers

Clover is resilient with lower water needs, it’s softer, it naturally deters pests, and most importantly it pulls nitrogen from the air and pushes it into the soil.

What’s funny and sad is now they’ve come full circle and today’s admen realized they could capitalize on the instagram trend of undoing the damage of the admen from 70 years ago

Once again advertisers prove that they are absolute scumbags with no ethics whatsoever who will value making a dollar over destroying ecosystems

Fetterman was always a piece of shit and you fell for the dnc whitewashing of his garbage personality and politics. It is well documented if you even spend 5 minutes looking into his past that long before his stroke he was a rich privilege baby (was paid $50k a year by his rich dad to be mayor of his poor town that couldn’t afford to pay the mayor, thus only rich dicks could run and hold the office), that abused his power regularly (suspiciously won by a single vote the first time and when it appeared his re election may not happen he used his connections to the cops in town to leak arrest records of his opponent right before the election), hates poor people (his plan to “fix the town” was continually gentrification and not anything that would actually address the systemic issues of the town. He goes on about how he loves the town and gets the name tattooed for optics but he just loves the small class of elites that live there and wants to price out the “undesireables”), and is racist (literally held a black jogger at gunpoint with a loaded shotgun because someone set off some fireworks near his house which are legal in PA, this was years before Ahmaud Arbery was murdered in the exact same fashion, and fetterman has not only not apologized, he actively refuses to do so)

This doesn’t even cover how he was a bully as mayor, how he would circumvent democratic process and citizen input to do projects he wanted to do regardless of if anyone else wanted them, how he considered himself the “head cop” of the town, how he tried to shut down black frequented local businesses like nightclubs and made it a personal mission despite them being operated legally because he felt they were a “nuisance”

Classic democrat, always a piece of shit, always rich from birth, but a hoodie made you think he was blue collar and a stroke made you think brain damage turns people conservative. The stroke made him more impulsive, so now he has a harder time playing the optics game and hiding his true colors, but they were always clear. Read his Wikipedia page and you’ll find sources for every single thing I’ve written, none of this is controversial or conspiracy shit. It is well documented parts of his past that is just ignored because the media is complicit

A small glass of tea made with fluid gels. An interesting effect of gels is that when you shear them into small pieces they want to hold back into a gel structure but at the same time they take on a delicate fluid like state. This recipe takes advantage of this effect by pushing this effect to its limit: when it is at rest the two gels are independent and held up against each other with no barrier in the glass. They are strong enough that lifting the glass will not ruin the effect. However, tilting the glass will and they will flow like a liquid.

Additionally this is a vegan recipe as the gel is based on gellan, a gelling agent derived from sphingomonas elodea, a bacteria derived from lily pond water.

One side dyed in the picture to show the effect but here is another picture of another preparation:

tea

This is 2 gels in the same glass held against each other. Think of the snack pack

The layers in that stay separated. This follows the same concept. But in the tea glass instead of using colors to differentiate the layers the layers are differentiated by temperature.

This results in a small glass of tea where you have both hot tea and iced tea. When you drink it both sensations hit your tongue and mouth at the same time. It’s quite confusing and very interesting

This recipe was created by chris young, who was working for Heston blumenthal at the fat duck.

It is labor intensive and takes some effort but if you want to surprise your guests this 100% will do it.

Hot and iced tea:
Tea infusion: 1.8kg low calcium water: the water should have between 100-400 ppm calcium. Too much and the gel will be lumpy. Too little and it will not set. I use Evian, which is about 80ppm, and add 36mg calcium chloride. You will use calcium chloride later so this isn’t a waste. You don’t need to measure super precisely because this just brings you up to the lower limit of 100ppm for the 1.8kg (however you may want to make much less)
40g tea
Cold infuse the tea in the water - this part is easy. Put the tea leaves in the water and wait. Infuse for at least one hour but not too long. Taste and make sure bitter notes aren’t infusing. 1 hour is often enough.
Strain the mixture. - strain it through a fine sieve lined with a coffee filter. You want it super clear.

Now comes the more difficult part

Hot tea
Part A:
860g tea infusion
80g ultrafine sugar (caster, superfine, bakers sugar) 0.6g gellan F 0.6g sodium citrate

Part b:
0.25g calcium chloride
1g malic acid
5g tea infusion

Prepare ice bath

Bring tea infusion to a simmer. Dry blend part A. Whisk in until dissolved. Mix part B. Once part A is simmering remove from heat, add part b, whisk in, place over ice bath, continue whisking as long as you can, ideally until cool. If you have an automated stirrer that’s the best.

Refrigerate 24 hours then pass through a very fine sieve (I use a 250um lab sieve) then bottle in a squirt bottle (like a condiment bottle).

Cold tea:
Part A:
860g tea infusion
80g ultrafine sugar (caster, superfine, bakers sugar) 0.6g gellan F 0.6g sodium citrate

Part b:
0.25g calcium chloride
3.5g malic acid
5g tea infusion

Prepare ice bath

Do the same exact preparation.

To serve:

Prepare the hot tea: you can either put it in a water bath if you have a sous vide at 162F, or you can microwave it until it’s hot enough, or you can put it in simmering water, etc. the first is the easiest but obviously you need the equipment. The microwave works in a pinch, just shake it up, taste test, go in small increments to make sure you’re not serving lava.

For the glass you need a divider. I use aluminum foil formed to the glass. This doesn’t give the cleanest line as shown in the dyed preparation. In the hot/cold one it doesn’t really matter. In chris youngs video where he does this with coffee he does reveal that he simply made a divider with more gellan to fit the glass. Simple. He doesn’t reveal the recipe though, nor the adaptations to make it work with coffee (there’s also a mulled wine version they served at least once at the fat duck). Youtubers always assume their audience is dumb or maybe he needs hestons permission to release the recipe, I dunno.

Once you have the hot heated up and the divider you’re ready to go. There’s a technique to this but it’s not terribly hard. Basically pour each side evenly then pull the divider out smoothly and as straight up as possible. Try to make the divider as thin as possible. From here serve as quickly as possible because the hot and cold sides will cool and heat each other. Even a few minutes will have you just serving a weird thick glass of tea.

But if you get it right you serve a glass of tea that look almost entirely normal. There is a slight difference in each side, one is slightly darker, but it is very subtle. I specifically use a glass with a handle because if you grab the glass it totally gives it away.
