Are you saying I am being disingenuous in my intentions by making counter points in a discussion? Is reflecting people's ideas back to them the only way to understand them?

I don't disagree, the current administration is that dumb. Hopefully their popularity continues to drop like a stone and in an election cycle we will be off dumb island.

Right. That's my entire point though. There are some positives, and some negatives. The dialogue I have seen around AI has basically boiled down to "AI is killing the planet and making us dumber", when the reality is actually a lot more nuanced.

Ok, so just to clarify you basing your hate off of anecdotal evidence and a fear of getting fucked over by corporations (which has been happening long before and completely unrelatedly to AI)?

Both. I think people don't even realize that there are non llm AI applications, and it has done a disservice to the field in general.

Glad to see some sanity for once on here. It's definitely not all good, but it's not all bad either, and when people attribute all the evils of the world to it, they are being disingenuous.

Fully agree that children should not be exposed to ai content, and age restrictions would be warranted (which ironically I think a lot of people on the fediverse would not be happy about).

Ok, that's one study. Here is a review of dozens of studies that shows a positive impact on education.

Yea, I am really getting disillusioned with the discussions on the fediverse around a lot of important topics, not just AI. I could picture a response from someone in this thread as "good, fuck off AI shill". Not a very productive or healthy place for a discussion, as much as I support the goals and motivations behind the fediverse. Apparently there is an anti-ai zealotry that makes real dialogue impossible.

Totally agree on the smaller scale local models. But this is my exact point here, it's not inherently evil, it's the implementation and systemic issues that are the issue. Yet people act like all AI is inherently evil and wrong.
