The fact that the Lemmy devs are so far gone with weird politics is a really bad sign for adoption seeing as they'll probably be banned from lemmy.ml and won't be able to access the official support sub. If they see admins on subs like this, they'll probably just ban them from their instance.

I'm aware that the developers of Lemmy have questionable political views. In the end they're doing everyone a valuable service and they're infinitely more socially acceptable then being on the other end of the spectrum. If that were the case, Lemmy would be completely taboo.
I am not intending to shill for people who unironically glorify Mao.
Imagine going so far down the rabbit hole that you unironically believe that the Reddit admins are white supremacists.
They're absolutely corporate shills though and they'll do whatever they feel like in the name of keeping the money flowing.
The SJW admin thinks that their comment floods are a product of downvotes being disabled on their instance.
I'll enable downvoting on mine as long as it doesn't lead to the Reddit situation where users are penalized site-wide for getting too many downvotes.
If they're going to do nothing but troll and be toxic, then unfortunately it's necessary. I also feel strongly that excessively defederating or banning visitors from the entire instance harms the fediverse. Instance bans and defederation should be used when instances have shown that they can't be relied on to communicate meaningfully outside their instance.
That's what I was thinking, though you can't rely on assumptions like that. It feels like they're intentionally making stuff up for leverage.
The good thing about the fediverse is that anyone can start their own instance and defederate from instances that are known to have problems with troublemakers and won't do anything about it.
It's infinitely better that Lemmy is going left rather then right because if it went right, the media would pick it up and then start casting FUD on the entire platform as being a cesspit of white supremacist groupthink and radicalization.
I imagine the Lemmy developers probably run join-lemmy.org and could start removing sites from there, but currently a lot of the general instances are listed there and they seem pretty sane. The only thing I find concerning is when someone claims that Joe Rogan is equivalent to Qanon.
be my russian girlfriend
They're so desperate for Russian girlfriends that now they're asking openly trans women who make it clear they aren't getting "the surgery."
Left wing spaces don't have any problem banning people for thoughtcrime.
But if you use violence against the people who perpetrate violence against everyone who isn't part of their protected group, you're just as bad as them. /s
Is Joe Rogan seriously on the same level as Qanon? He explicitly calls them out as crazy.
As far as fake progressives go, Tim Pool is unironically evil and infinitely worse. Even if he's genuinely giving his opinion, he's so far down the rabbit hole of insanity that it's irrelevant.
I don't have high hopes even for a fork. Reddit clones tend to attract people who were banned from Reddit and there tends to be a reason for that.
The best thing would be for a third party support community to spring up, possibly with a dedicated instance so that admins don't get locked out of support for wrongthink.
