Probably, but iPhones and Android have them for the Five Eyes and anyone else who is willing to pay/push for laws to make it happen. All you do with a phone is pick your poison, do you want China to spy on you, or America, the UK, or some other government or company who then sells it to the highest bidder.

Any cell phone, dumb or smart, is a tracking device. The smarter it is, the better it is as snooping on you. Doesn't matter how or where the phone's hardware is made, it's going to track you without consent. You just need to ask "Am I worried about China or am I worried about another government?" to even "If the backdoor is big enough, can third parties get me too as I walk by on the street?"

I think it's more about the defaults included, plus Google hides sideloading more with each new version of android. They have a semi-reasonable worry of "If we show off how easy sideloading is or can be, that enables bad faith actors." Like Microsoft and IE/Edge.

But on a fresh install of Android, if you download f-droid from Chrome or Firefox, you need to:

• Allow the browser to install apk files
• Install the apk
• Then enable f-droid to install apk files

Meanwhile Play Store doesn't have any of that, it's enabled and allowed to download and update anything without user prompt, it's an opt-out.

Plus with how anything that conflicts with a default app like a Clock app, there's a decent shot it might not work due to the default battery optimizations, the internal syscalls for "Google's Clock" instead of "Default Clock" it just kinda makes using anything that's not the one included with your phone more of a headache.

It's easier with SMS, Dialer, browser, and Home launchers, but if you wanted to change any other important apps like your calendar or email it's kind of a headache.

I really detest shit like this, it just gives ammo for defense for horrible people/groups/states. There's actual horrible crimes done by Israel that should be covered and investigated and punished for. Making shit up allows them to deflect with "Well if the harvesting organs is fake, bombing a hospital must be too!"

Same for Russia, USSR, China, NATO/America, Republicans, Democrats, and so on. When here's actual horrible things to criticize and use for proof, making shit up doesn't help anyone but those people who already have an easy time getting away with horrid shit.
