Don't buy it. This is just posturing the same way Putin said in 2022 that nuclear war was a possibility. It's remote. Whatever is left of Ukraine might join NATO after the war, if anything. Even if they joined before the end, nothing would change. Even dementia man does not want nuclear war with Russia.

Stopped following the story because it was extremely boring but read the author's updated ending and it seemed like maybe a 'war is bad' thing to me (spoiler: there's a time lapse into the future of civilization developing then having another war then some future kid accidentally discovers the plot device and it's implied that the story loops over). I think the rest of the story is more dumb than malicious but I could be wrong. I don't think you're supposed to support the main character's genocide just like you're not supposed to support Walter White.
I think I agree if and only if they acknowledge their own country's crimes, too. What I don't tolerate is Japanese facists malding over Oppenheimer and simultaneously saying Japan did nothing wrong. Not saying every Japanese person does that, but there's a lot of denialism.

The historian seems pretty sus for waxing on about war crimes while the Japanese fascists did worse to Chinese, Korean, and other civilians. Japan was not the victim of WW2.
