why still there

Because Reddit is still the only place with large enough communities of various special interests.

Reporters seemed to believe them. It's not at all common though so I don't know if it has been tested to a convincing point.

No one likes the option, but Tesla uniquely will let you opt out of all car <-> Tesla communications. Don't buy full self driving as I don't think that works opted out. Definitely don't subscribe to premium connectivity as opting out disables connectivity.

This is just acknowledging that sometimes things suck. I'm not saying the cyclist was at fault, just that he would have been better off if he had looked ahead at least once in the half a kilometre the car was visible for.

The owners can still get updates, they'll just have to go to a service centre to get it installed, like other brands drivers have to do regardless

Would privacy conscious drivers believe the car wasn't reporting to Tesla if it could still get over the air updates?

I would rank Subaru above Toyota in that

This is an awfully car based conversion for here

The car locked because it was parked and its key disconnected. A Tesla key is either an RFID card, or a phone, or a dongle. None of those do well with explosions and fire

Tesla could unlock it because its computer was still working and still online

I wonder if less solid vehicles would have still operating OnStar were they subject to the same events

Tesla is pretty bad, Tesla employees were found a while ago to have been passing around sexy video from their customers' cars

But they are better than every other brand in one way: they let you opt out.

Tesla let you refuse connection between your car and Tesla, then they can't see you, can't track you and you can't get over the air updates or streaming media from the car (the car's cell connection is disconnected)

In Australia as kids we always decoded the international tv station's abbreviation (SBS, special broadcast service) as Saggy Boobs Shows

There's little restriction to what is shown in Australia, especially after 9pm

After the API changes Reddit lost several mods of several big subreddits. Many out of protest, others out of annoyance or unwillingness to take up the extra load

The mods on a small sub I still visit apologised at the time that they had to implement strict automod because they could no longer work on the sub in spare time at work, just after work on the desktop using old Reddit and external tools.

Some mods that weren't protesting left, put off that they couldn't use their preferred moderation tools built into an app.

So many big subs are moderated by people put in by the admins. Many mods can phone up the person who put them there and say get rid of this troublemaker and the admin will.

Even the subs I visit which are universally small suck more than they used to because there's so much less human moderation, so much more robot moderation, and they are full of moderated comments where they weren't so much before

It's pretty much a highway. Dangerous to stop on, and the shoulder was turned into a bike lane. Beyond the bike lane on that stretch was a ditch the car couldn't cross without damage.

I'm presuming they were broken down, it's the usual reason for someone to abandon a car kilometres from the city or suburbia. They may have been pulled over by police and not allowed to continue due to drunk driving.

It really was a crap situation where the car had no other safe option and the cyclist would have been okay had he looked forward instead of down.
